“A B&B situated in a former doctor’s house that overlooks the town, Harlech Castle and Snowdonia”
Reviewed 8 July 2014

Peter is the welcoming and helpful owner of Pen-Y-Garth, a B&B situated in a former doctor’s house that overlooks the town, Harlech Castle and Snowdonia. Our room was clean and comfortable. This is a great jumping off point for seeing North Wales, such as Portmeirion Village, the railway up Snowdonia at Porthmadog, Bodnant Garden, and Bodysgallen Hall. One cautionary note: Maes-Y-Neuadd is for sale and no longer open. Our clean and comfortable Seaview Room cost BPS 50, a real bargain. With Welsh cakes upon arrival and a wonderful breakfast, this B&B gives excellent value. Recommended.

Stayed here for two nights in the Harlech room. The welcome was very friendly and efficient. We were shown to our room which was clean and comfortable with all the facility's that we needed. On arrival freshly made cake was found in the room, next night it was welsh cakes, a lovely idea and gesture. Drink making facilities with fresh milk available in the room. The view from the room looked over the castle, the coast and Snowdonia mountain range with Snowdonia visible. There was a choice for breakfast which was cooked to individual requirements, tea, coffee and fruit juice. In all a wonderful place to stay.

I can only echo what other people have said. If you want to stay in Harlech, this is the place to stay. Lovely room, so clean and comfortable. Great shower. Freshly baked Welsh cakes were a pleasant treat with a cup of tea on arrival. Super breakfast, kept us satisfied all day. A word about Harlech itself, it is very hilly, if you struggle to walk up hills for any reason, use your car.

Room Tip: We had the Castle room, it had a great view.

Stayed here one night only. Had a really friendly welcome, homemade scones in the room and fresh milk available for a cup of tea. The room was warm and had a fantastic view over the castle coast and mountains beyond. And it was so quiet I could hear the birds and not a lot else which was great after a long journey. Slept well and in morning there was homemade soap for the shower. The breakfast was cooked to order when you got to the dining room (you pre order the night before) - bacon and perfectly cooked poached eggs on home baked bread. I think the marmalade was homemade as well! Visited the castle - it's a monster and the views from the top of the walls are stunning. Stay here, go there!

Great hospitality with special treats left behind our door on Easter Sunday and homemade welsh cakes on arrival... delightful hosts & delicious breakfast! We stayed in The Harlech Room which has super views of the beach & castle through the gothic-styled window which added more charm to the place. We enjoyed a walk in the countryside just a stone's throw away from the house. Really special find & happy to have found Pen Y Garth...

Room Tip: The Harlech room is spacious with a great view and very comfortable bed & ensuite!

I cannot BIG this place up enough. A real home from home, with wonderful home comforts, such as homebaked Welsh Cakes left in our room on our arrival, an electric blanket, bath robes, slippers, homebaked bread at Breakfast, homemade preserves, organic produce used when possible, and a truly 'five star' cooked breakfast cooked to perfection. Our room 'the Castle room' had the most amazing views ever and the village of Harlech and the beach, which is in easy walking distance, is absolutely stunning. We had an amazing little break and cannot recommend this hotel enough.

Room Tip: The Castle Room had fabulous views, comfortable, clean and very spacious

Great place to stay were the host's have provided a fantastic service from the moment we arrived. The room was great with brilliant views of Harlech Castle and we were greeted with traditional Welsh cakes. Along with further home comforts such as an electric blanket (if needed), home made bread, home made jams, a great full English breakfast with corpious amounts of coffee or tea, and......a great host/mechanic when I experienced a flat battery when leaving. Thanks for the help Pete, we made it home safely.

Room Tip: Ask for the Castle Room..
