Perfect.
This is a top quality restaurant (5 stars) with the most beautiful accommodation.
We stayed in room 7 (Harlech), beautiful top quality accommodation. On arrival you find a basket of fruit, bottled water, tea, coffee and hot chocolate. The bed is beautifully made, there's a radio, cd and alarm clock, 28" tv with dvd and video player. There's a beautiful en-suite with bath and double shower.
So we are already in love with the room when we go down to the bar for pre dinner drinks.
The food is out of this world, at dinner you start with canapes, choose your meal and are taken to your table in the restaurant. The food is so fantastic you want to try it all. We always take a cafetiere of coffee and petit fours, back to the room to watch a dvd after dinner.
The next morning, breakfast starts at 8am (in the week) there are freshly squeezed juices, home made museli and locally produced yoghurts and fruit. Then theres an array of cooked items if you wish, all cooked to order...wonderful.
Glyn, Jackie, Megan and Georgia do a wonderful job of looking after you, we will be back, be kind to them, we want them to provide their excellent service and quality of food for a long time to come.

We stayed in room 7 which overlooks the road (remember that for later) and the castle with distant sea views. The room itself was wonderfully huge, beautifully furnished and spotlessly clean. In fact, the room itself is probably one of the largest and nicest we've ever stayed in. All of the little details were there: sumptuous bedlinen, lovely toiletries, a bowl of fresh fruit, CD-player, DVD-player and a selection of both CDs and DVDs (none of which were to our taste, but still the thought counts)

When going away from home, the one thing I usually miss are the bathroom facilities; most hotels don't seem to think that a properly working, powerful shower is an essential, but I can assure them that it most definitely is, and the owners of Castle Cottage seem to realise this too. The spacious bathroom, complete with separate bath and huge shower cubicle still left enormous amounts of space for prancing about on the heated tiled floor.

The bed was a superking (two singles shoved together), and this meant that I mislaid my husband during the night - no bad thing for a decent night's sleep! Unfortunately, you're unlikely to get a decent sleep if you stay in the same room as we did; between it and the castle (a mere 1 minute walk away), there's a pub. This pub seems to attract the loudest of guests who all want to stand outside smoking and screaming at each other into the wee small hours. Yes it was a Friday night, but still.

On our second night, the road outside (which is actually signposted as not being suitable for motor vehicles) was the location for our evening's "entertainment". A couple of other guests (who'd been dining in the restaurant, and were actually staying in the hotel) decided that they needed to move their car away from the parking space right outside their room to somewhere else. Unfortunately, they thought it'd be OK to reverse up a 1:1 hill at about half-past midnight (this after deciding there wasn't enough space to turn around: "left hand up, right hand down"). The acrid smell of burning rubber indicated that they'd done some serious damage after around 30 minutes of squealing brakes, roaring engines and shouting at each other.

Perhaps we were just unlucky, but both of these events clouded our stay in Harlech. The other problem with location relates to parking. There may well be a few spaces directly outside the premises for guests, but the 1:1 hill and a rather large van parked at the top of said hill proved to be too much of an impediment, so we parked in the castle car park (pay and display; £4 for 24 hours I think). There's also not very much else to do in Harlech itself once you've looked at the splendour of the castle. The beach is a goodly walk down the hill as are lots of other amenities which we didn't realise were there until we left, so I can't imagine a stay of more than a couple of nights would thrill many people.

Breakfasts were an absolute delight with plenty of freshly squeezed juices on hand, and a choice of delicious hot options. Would we return? Probably not; more because we feel we've "done" Harlech than because of the quality of our accommodation, which was at least five star.

As the owner of Castle Cottage i feel I must respond to the review by Car01 from Cardiff.

I thank for her positive comments re our rooms and 5 star facilities/service etc, but feel the her views on the town has done Harlech a disservice.

Firstly, thanks to our Government relaxing the drinking laws and forcing smokers outside you will get some late night noise all over the UK.

Harlech (pop 1,800) is normally like a sleepy village 90% of the time (bank holidays excepted!) The review has given a unfairly negative image of our historic town.

Secondly i cannot be held responsible or indeed control the behaviour of the general public - my guests or not. Everybody is responsible for their own actions. You will get the odd night with late night noise - the same as anywhere from a small village to a party town like Cardiff!

Thirdly, there is a wealth of activities/things to do in Harlech and around the area - golf, mountaineering, water sports, castles, beaches, art galleries, nature trails, slate mines, Portmeirion village, horse riding, quad biking, go karts, Shell island, clay shooting etc etc

Please don't be put off coming to Harlech, come and see some of the best scenery in the UK !

We have just spent our 2nd Wedding Anniversary at Castle Cottage with 10 of our Wedding guests. I suspect that they did not come to see us...but joined us because they wanted to sample the delights that this wonderful restuarant with rooms provides.

We return again and again because we are never disappointed. All rooms are cleaned to a high standard (and I am fussy), the new bar area/lounge is very "London chic" but has the added attraction of a warm professional welcome and the food that is served is of a consistant high to excellent standard (again count that as very fussy customer being impressed). My husband and I have eaten in many places eg: Langhams, The Wolsey, The River Cafe but our favourite for the last 3 years has got to be this excellent restaurant.

This gem is a mixture of modern meets old rustic charm, which enables it to provide character coupled with a sharp chic edge. Comfortable leather sofa's sit comfortably with beautifully made delicate wood drinks tables, whilst the old beams that adorn the ceiling are a reminder of the history of this wonderful building. My favourites, the warm goats cheese with pear and walnut salad to start, the duck as a main is excellent in whatever form (served pink) and the banana and walnut sponge is as light as you will find and is just a dream. Enjoy.

We love returning customers, especially those that rate us with establishments in London. We strived to create a modern feel in an old historic building and its good to know so many people enjoy our relaxed atmosphere, food and service.

This August we treated ourselves to a long weekend in the beautiful village of Harlech. We have friends who live locally and they recommend Castle Cottage Restaurant for a great meal out. Having looked at their comprehensive website and sample menus my husband and I decided we'd stay at their B& B and get even better value with their dinner, bed and breakfast package.
Beautiful room and bathroom. Big bowl of fresh fruit was a nice surprise too. Fantastic food. We had to ask for them to leave us for an extra 10 minutes so we'd be able to manage our desserts!
By the time we had to leave, I was already planning a return visit in October!

This is one of the nicest places you could find in Wales. The rooms are superb, bathrooms to die for. The quality oozes out of every room. Best of all is the food. I wish I could describe each dish we tried, not enough room to type the selection. Absolutely gorgeous cooking to savour. Next was the wine selection, not your usual bland list, again, quality to choose from. Glyn and Jackie are the perfect hosts without being too intrusive, they have worked hard to attain this standard and it clearly shows. This is one place I would gladly return to again and again, any excuse to taste the culinary delights that they serve. First class in every way.
