“A Unique and Beautiful Place”
Reviewed 17 July 2013

Hidden away in a quiet part of Harlech, the Maelgwyn House offers spectacular views over the coast and surrounding country.

We stayed in the 'Cosy Attic Room'; which was clean, comfortable and had excellent views overs the coast.

Breakfast was served in a light and airy room; and there was plenty of choice.

The hosts were very friendly and welcoming to us; and we will be making another visit to Maelgwyn House when we next visit Harlech.

Room Tip: Excellent website, which shows all room interiors

We stayed in two nights with Bridget and Derek and it was excellent. Both Bridget and Derek were so welcoming and we enjoyed the conversations. The views from the b&b was great. Breakfast was very satisfying. The room was clean and comfortable. We accidentally took the key with us after we left the B&B but they were very cool with that. We would love to go back.

We have just stayed 2 nights with Bridget and Derek at Maelgwyn House and thoroughly enjoyed every minute. We booked 4 rooms and all were delightful. The views are amazing, the rooms well appointed and the welcome warm.
There was a good breakfast selection, our party chose full welsh breakfasts which were generous, and scrambled eggs with smoked salmon - all well prepared.
The weather was very hot and each room had a good fan to keep us cool if we needed it.
We felt very much at home and thoroughly recommend Maelgwyn House to anyone wanting a good quality B and B with a welcoming feel.

Room Tip: The front rooms have a fabulous view

Having decided to take advantage of the exceptional weather, my wife and I decided to head to Wales late in the afternoon for a couple of nights . Deciding on Harlech but without pre-booking any accommodation and arriving after 20:00 , we were so fortunate to be recommended by a local to Bridget and Derek's B&B. On arrival and being shown the small but beautifully furnished double room available at £65 per night, we knew this would be perfect for us and we had been fortunate to stumble across Maelgwyn house. Our 2 days there were extremely pleasant and we found our hosts to be delightful and informative. Harlech itself is a small but alluring town with several restaurants and The Red Lion pub . We would have no hesitation to returning to stay with Bridget and Derek again!

We stayed here for three nights. Our room was excellent being clean and comfortable and well equipped. The shower was powerful and hot, and the breakfast was perfect in choice and presentation. We also liked the art, painted by the owner.

For the second time we decided to have a short break back at Maelgwyn. We had a lovely break. Bridget and Derek were very welcoming, just like family. We were celebrating out 35th Wedding Anniversary and it was a lovely surprise to receive an anniversary card from Bridget and Derek. The ethos of this b&b is relaxing, peaceful and friendly. We had room 4 at the top of the house with magnificent views over Harlech bay. The room was very clean and the bath towels lovely and fluffy. The Welsh Breakfast was absolutely delicious, cooked by Bridget. Derek is a mind of information of the locality and always has suggestions as what to do and where to go in the area. We thoroughly recommend this b&b to any couple wanting a peaceful break. Thank you Bridget and Derek

Room Tip: Any room at the front have magnificent sea views

We have just returned from a 2 night break in Harlech and would highly recommend Maelgwyn House Bed and Breakfast and will certainly return when visiting the area again. We had such a warm friendly welcome from Derek and Bridget then shown our room which was Room 1. A spotlessly clean beautiful large bedroom at the front of the property with king size bed with hospitality tray with its fantastic views of Harlech Castle and the sea and with a little sitting area in the picture window looking out across the bay was fantastic. The sun sets were amazing each night! A lovely little en suite shower room with big fluffy towels and tons of hot water. The full english breakfast every morning (the scrambled eggs were amazing!) was excellent but there were lots of other options of fresh fruit, cereals, yogurt etc too. Little personal touches too - Bridget noticed we had a bottle of wine in the room and the next day wine glasses were left for us. Dont' hesitate - book it! You won't be disappointed.

Room Tip: Choose a room from the video online. The sea view rooms are amazing!
