My sisters and I had a fantastic two days here with our lovely hosts. House and rooms are immaculately clean. You can spend lots of time just looking through the hall way, stairs and breakfast room at all the lovely art works and curios on display! Plenty to do in the area and close to Portmeirion which is why we chose Harlech. Actually Harlech is a lovely village too. Homemade ice cream shop - easy to walk around - pubs, theatre, castle ruins what more could you want! Would hope to go back again. Thank you to Bridgette and Derek for all their hard work and care.

Booked Maelgwyn as usual on the back of reading other trip advisors reviews and happy to say that what you will read is exactly what you will get, couldn't fault anything about the place. The whole place is kept spotlessly clean by Bridget and Derek its also beautifully furnished throughout with an upstairs lounge available with a library to suit all tastes. Breakfast was good with plenty of choice for those who don't want the full English (sorry Welsh) each day, cereals fruit, yogurts and try the scrambled eggs with salmon they certainly were a hit with my wife.

I could carry on at length praising Maelgwyn but I really don't think I need to looking at the general rating reviewers have given it so all I can suggest is if you are looking for somewhere in this area make it you first choice you wont be disappointed

Near perfection thanks.

Room Tip: Room No 3 at the rear is a good choice in summer with it not being in the full sun but whether 30c...

What more could you ask for from a hotel? Bridget & Derek are superb hosts & can be justifiably proud of Maelgwyn. I can fully recommend room 2 with it's comfortable bed & a view to die for - inc Harlech Castle & Snowdon / Lleyn Peninsula in the distance. The full welsh breakfast is a must! We will definitely be making time to visit Maelgwyn House again next year.

We come to see our kids who camp out at Shell island. They enjoy the site and have a great time. However we prefer to camp out at Maelgwyn where the Beds are most comfortable and the food (great breakfasts) needs no preparation. The hosts treat everyone as long lost friends and make your stay a real treat. We have been before and will be back again.Nothing is too much trouble and the view from our window is one to treasure.

Room Tip: Don't use number one,we like to think it's ours.

When looking for a place to stay for 1 night near Harlech I came across Maelgwyn House and as the stay was short and a last minute decision my expectations were only for a resting place for the night. What a pleasant surprise awaited me, the accommodation was spotlessly clean (praise indeed from someone who is very 'picky' on this point), the bed and pillows wonderfully comfortable and everyone was friendly and welcoming. All this at a very reasonable price.
Having stayed over a number of years in various hotels in Harlech which were more expensive and not to the same standard of cleanliness this was a very pleasant experience all round.
Thank you to Bridget and Derek, your accommodation has been duly filed for any future visits to Harlech.

We had the top two bedrooms for just the one night and shall definitely return for more! Bridget welcomed us promptly and warmly: we were wowed by the spectacular view across the bay from room 4 and the spaciousness of room 5 which was more like a suite!

After an evening of fish and chips and birthday cake on Llandanwg beach, a favourite old haunt of ours, we rejoined to Maelgwyn (our daughter was delighted that a birthday card from Derek and Bridget had been popped in her room, a much appreciated kind touch) to partake of the generous selection of teas, coffees and hot chocolates in our room with our two daughters whilst looking out to the lights of the whole of the Llyn peninsula stretching out before us. Stunning!

In the morning the breakfast was excellent and Derek was very generous in his words of wisdom and experience to our daughter as she embarks on her art degree course. We were perfectly set up for the day: for sunbathing and paddling on the glorious Harlech beach; partaking of delicious ice-creams from the specialist ice-cream shop in Harlech; and spoiling ourselves taking afternoon tea on the terrace at The Plas overlooking the castle, golf course and spectacular sweep of sand dunes. We consider Harlech to be a gem of a little coastal town and we are delighted to have now discovered Maelgwyn as a base there.

Usually I write extensive reviews, but I think everything is written already by other guests. We are frequent travellers, not only in Europe, and this place is all that you can ask for from a b&b. Suggestion, ask for a seaview room, but from experience, the others are good too!
