“Great teashop with castle views”
Reviewed 18 October 2013

We had a lovely lunch here yesterday, overlooking the castle, in this beautiful tea room.

My husband had a Brie and cranberry panini with walnuts added at the waitress' suggestion (he doesn't eat bacon) and I had welsh rarebit - both hot and tasty served with an unusual and tasty mini salad. We also enjoyed some wonderful homemade chocolate cake.

The waitress was friendly and helpful. We weren't in any hurry at all but others seemed to be, and it felt like the waitress was running to catch up. Maybe it's because I've worked in a similar establishment in the past, but I wondered whether an extra member of staff serving at peak time might smooth things a little. Or maybe some light music would have calmed the atmosphere slightly?

“Great view of the Castle”
Reviewed 12 October 2013

We ordered two specialty teas which were very nice. We also had extra hot water to top up the tea. When we asked for tap water we were brought a jug of water with slices of lemon and ice which was a nice touch.
My wife enjoyed her Welsh rarebit and really enjoyed my Parsnip cake. What made our visit extra special was our table from which we had a great view of Harlech castle.

“Excellent”
Reviewed 6 October 2013 via mobile

The bad reviews here are nonsense, harlech is a small town which gets very busy during peak times so you should expect a delay on food and drinks. Perhaps the order before yours was 10 different teas and time consuming as they all need a cup, spare hot water, milk or lemon. Also the food is homemade every morning, and always cooked fresh, its not a fast food restaurant..
However i had a lovely relaxing time at the Cemlyn, the coffee is so good as well as the coffee cake. Make sure to stop for lunch to see what you're missing out on!

“A real gem, in a town which is re-inventing itself.”
Reviewed 3 October 2013 via mobile

We had not visited Harlech for over 25 years, and we were pleasantly surprised by the overall ambience.
The Cemlyn Tea Room is the star turn in this renaissance. The teas and coffee selection would be enough to give it top marks, but there is more besides. A range of flavoursome casseroles, including TWO Vegetarian options, served with savoury olive scones which were straight out of the oven, add depth to the menu.
The potentially superb view from the terrace is marred by an ugly web of BT phone wires and supporting hardware.
We bought a Welsh Tea Loaf for supper at home.

“An unfortunate experience”
Reviewed 3 October 2013

While on holiday in Harlech we went into this teashop for coffee before we explored the castle. It was a lovely day and we sat out on their terrace which had wonderful views of the sea, mountains and castle. We were served very good coffee and the staff were extremely friendly. Having enjoyed this short visit to Cemlyn we decided to go back later in the day, after looking around the castle, for a cream tea. As we knew exactly what we wanted we placed our order with the manageress as we entered and then returned to the terrace to again enjoy the views and lovely weather. Our drinks arrived soon after, but it then became apparent that our cream tea had been forgotten, especially after a couple who arrived shortly after us were served with their cream tea. We asked the waitress what had happened to our order and she went to find out. The fact that our order had been forgotten wasn’t a particular problem, we weren’t in any hurry, the setting was lovely and these things happen. However, we did expect the manageress, or at least the waitress, to come out to us, explain what had happened, offer an apology and see if we still wanted our order and at that point we would probably have said yes. This did not happen, no one came to see us and we had to go inside to find the manageress. She was very apologetic, admitted that she had forgotten the order and also gave us our drinks on the house. After such a positive first visit it was a shame that our second visit was spoilt, especially as with a more proactive approach to how they handle customer issues the problem could have been resolved.
