“Nice but odd”
Reviewed 7 August 2013 via mobile

Bit difficult to find but the room was lovely and had a great nights sleep. Very annoying having to open and close the gate every time you come and go. Only me and another couple staying so very quiet with not a lot to do.
Felt every time I moved the owner appeared and was far too quiet for me.

The photograph of the house, was obviously taken when it had been tidied up outside. Not quite the same now. Read the reviews of how lovely the house and contents were, erm, disappointed comes to mind. Breakfast was good, however, would I stay again?. . . No.

Room Tip: Not many to choose from!

The couple who run this B&B run it more as a hobby than a business, so as long as you fit in with them, you'll have a good stay. Grounds, rooms and breakfast were all lovely. However we had a small disagreement over what B&B should provide - a front door key - and ended up with the lady shouting at us like we were naughty children and asking us to leave. Not just us but another guest as well. The owners wanted to be out all day, but the rain out was so torrential that many rivers burst their banks that day, hence why we wanted a key and to stay in, especially as we had been to a wedding till the early hours the night before. Alan was friendly, but his wife is completely unable to deal with the public.

Room Tip: only choose if you intend to be out all day in all weathers

The very moment we arrived Alan was at the door to greet us. A very friendly welcome indeed.

The house is just amazing and lots of TLC has been given to this home. A very high level of attention to detail with restoration and maintenance of the Grade listed building throughout. The entrance hallway is very welcoming and the solid pine timber floors add so much character.

We stayed in the Oak room. Fantastic size with a king size bed, full en-suite including a full sized bath! Nice hot soak after a day's walking! The tin of biscuits (Hob Nobs, yum!) and fresh milk in the room was a very nice touch, seldom seen!

The breakfast was very generous and cooked to perfection. Delicious! A superb selection and so, so fresh. We were the only guests staying but a full spread was made available! Wow!

Overall, a gem of a place in a idyllic location and we are so glad we stayed there. Alan and Christine are the perfect hosts providing a great place to stay to rest the weary traveler!

If you have reason to pass through or indeed fancy somewhere on the outskirts of Llangollen, stay here, you won't be disappointed!

The moment we pulled up Alan was there welcoming us. His friendliness was second to none. The B&B was antiquated but full of character and lovely personal touches. It was clean and tidy and was a peaceful retreat. There were local pubs a spa shop and cashpoints within walking distance and good food pubs approx 2-3 miles away.

The room was cosy with a comfy bed and a great view.

The only downside was the lack of water. When we first arrived we filled up the kettle from the bathroom tap to find that the water was slightly yellow. Also on the second evening of our stay we came back from the beach covered in sand and looking forward to lovely shower like the one we had that morning...but alas the shower didn't work and there was no water!! the tanks were empty and it would take at least the night to fill them! We woke the next morning to find that there was still no water. I will hand it to Alan though he was up in the attic until 10.30pm trying to fix it as was so sincerely apologetic. We did feel very sorry for him. We left that day feeling rather sad and very dirty!

Alan and Christine worked endlessly to make sure that our stay was a happy and stress free one. They are lovely people who are obviously very proud of their house and of what they do.

Thank you so much Alan & Christine for a lovely stay...ok so we left a little dirty! things happen beyond our control sometimes thats all!

Room Tip: Bring lots of water!! lol!!

Stayed one night as we were passing through, greeted at the door by Alan and made to feel very welcome. The room was sumptuous with a great view and an en-suite the size of most bedrooms. Lots of period features all beautifully preserved in this 200 year old former rectory. Room was well equipped and the tin of biscuits instead of the usual plastic wrapped stuff is a nice touch. The full cooked breakfast to our exact order set us up for the day. Our next night was at a 3 star hotel at considerable higher cost and it did not come close in either welcome or facilities.

We just had one of the best weekends away with the kids in Wales. We stayed (very last minute) at Plas Derwen and only booked on the day of arrival! The owenrs were very helpful and obliging and made our stay fantastic. The family room was very comfortable, clean and smelled lovely. The location is great for day trips to loads of fantastic places. The breakfast (esp. the fresh plums and cherries) was brilliant. Thoroughly recommend it.
