“Nice place to stay shame about thin walls and inconsiderate other guests!”
Reviewed 20 July 2014 via mobile

We stayed as a couple with our dog for two nights. The pub is set in the very remote village of Llarnarmon. We were greeted by a young girl on reception who was very helpful and gave us some ideas of where to walk during our stay. It's great that the pub takes dogs although the only downside with the area is that there aren't many fields/woodland you can let the dog off the lead and walk through. We borrowed a book of walking routes from the bar but this seemed outdated as most of the routes we tried to take were closed off. As there weren't many walking routes we could find we ended up driving to snowdonia and walking here - throughly recommended but quite a way from the pub. Food was very nice but they could do with some more 'light bite' options for the summer eg salads and fish. One thing to bear in mind here is that the walls are VERY thin. Unfortunately on our second night the couple in the room next door left their dog in the room for the evening when they went down for dinner and the bar. The dog barked all evening and kept us from having an early night in preparation for our 4 hour drive home. Take some ear plugs just in case you are also placed next to inconsiderate guests! Overall friendly owners and staff and a room that did the job.

My husband and I stayed at the Hand Inn for two nights for a short break. The Inn is situated in the glorious vale of Dyffryn Ceiriog., in a small, charming village called Llanarmon. After arriving late afternoon we were greeted and shown into our sunny and spacious bedroom. The next couple of days were spent in enjoying the food and friendly service of the staff. It is prime walking area with glorious scenery in every direction you walk from the Inn. We will certainly be returning to this charming and peaceful place.

The hotel is ok but staff very good. The room was dated but large. Located in small town with a good parking. Good for a nights stay. Not much to do longer unless you leave town and visit the country side and other villages. The countryside is really nice and the people are cool.

Tucked away down a winding road the Hand is a lovely little place to stay with your dog. The rooms are very good and well appointed and we looked out onto a hill with sheep. The food was excellent and well cooked and presented. We were made to feel very welcome and enjoyed our stay

I've visited the hand on many occasions, and have never been disappointed. The food is to die for, everything is so fresh and locally sourced. Good selection of wines and ales. A real gem of a hotel that retains an Oldy worldly atmosphere.
If your not planning to stay, just visit, it truly is in a beautiful location, with many walks, horse riding, and quad bike activities.
The staff and service is truly excellent, where nothing is too much.

Just returned from a one night stay at The Hand and we were very impressed. The location is first class - if you are looking for somewhere off the beaten track The Hand really fits the bill. Eleven miles from the main road in a beautiful valley the only thing you are likely to hear at night are the sheep in the surrounding fields. Our room was very well equipped and spotlessly clean. A lovely big comfortable bed and gorgeous view from the window. We enjoyed an evening meal in the very popular pub restaurant, which serves the usual pub fare alongside some more unusual dishes, all beautifully cooked and presented and served by friendly waiting staff. Breakfast was also top quality with fish dishes as well as the full English and delicious homemade marmalade. We wished we could have stated longer in this beautiful part if the world and hope to return.

What a delightful place this hotel is.

The room (11) was spotless with a large bathroom and the little touches in this hotel really made it homely. The tea and coffee tray was overflowing with a variety of teas, coffees and hot chocolate. The biscuits were generous portions not the normal small offerings most hotels supply. The toiletries in the bathroom were nice quality in short everything had been done to make the guest feel welcome.

All the staff were extremely helpful and friendly. When we placed our booking we got an email straight back giving us directions, offering to book a table for dinner and warning us that mobiles did not work in the area - a nice touch which was appreciated.

We ate dinner in the restaurant and the food was excellent. Breakfast the following morning was one of the best hotel breakfasts we have ever had.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Hand is an ancient hostelry with all the attributes you'd expect - bags of character, a cosy, relaxing ambience and a warm welcome from your hosts, Jonathan and Jackie Greatorex. As soon as you arrive you feel the weight of the world dissolving as the surroundings work their magic. All the classic ingredients are here - old beams, roaring fireplaces, a casual mix-and-match of pine and oak furniture, real ale and good food. The latter is seriously good. Thanks to the talents of Head Chef Grant Mulholland and his team, The Hand is renowned for award-winning food, an inventive marriage of country fare and sophisticated metropolitan cuisine. The bedrooms, in a variety of sizes, reflect similar influences, with rustic decor and sparkling modern bathrooms. Country lovers just love the location. You can walk in the Berwyns for hours with only the sheep for company and the ever-helpful Hand can arrange many country pursuits, including horse riding, fishing and shooting. You may be away from it all, but you'll also be in the swing of things; this gem of a country inn is so much a part of village life that locals and visitors mix in unaffected harmony. ... more   less
