We have been staying at this Inn for a few years now and have always found it to be comfortable and welcoming.
It is extremely quiet and remote with no mobile signal so no good for anyone who wants or needs to keep in touch with anything.
The food is really good although, as usual, too much for me. However, I think I now know how to handle this by just asking for what I more or less know I can manage to eat!
What more can I say really except that we will probably be here again next year!

We stayed for 3 nights as a mini break straight after our wedding. The Hand is spotless clean, all of the staff are very friendly and helpful, the food is delicious and the beer is fabulous. We cannot praise the place highly enough. Our 2 dogs stayed with us and they were made very welcome and settled at the pub easily. We will definitely be visiting The Hand again, the countryside is beautiful and the walks with the dogs worked up an appetite for the generous portions of top quality food.

The Hand is a difficult place to characterize - a small hotel behind a pub or a pub/restaurant with rooms? No matter, it is a little gem of a place. The setting is idyllic at the head of the beautiful Ceiriog valley in one of those 'blink and you've missed it' villages. It does seem to be well known though, to cyclists taking the Lycra (or leathers) for a tour of North Wales.
The welcome was very warm and genuine from the owners and the friendly efficient local staff. We were quite a large group for lunch, but nothing was too much trouble and everyone enjoyed their food. My husband was impressed by the well-kept handpulled beers, with the choice changing even between lunch and dinner. With the good weather it was a bonus to be able to sit outside in a garden/patio area for our tea and coffee.
Walks along the quiet lanes and up a few hills helped make room for another delicious meal, this time taken in the bar, where the menu is the same as the dining room and we could take the dog. Dogs are allowed everywhere except the main dining room and our little girl received her own gentle welcome from the resident collie.
My husband and I stayed overnight - wish it could have been longer - and our room, while fairly small (it is a very old building) was comfortable and well equipped, with a smart modern bathroom. It was a delight to open the blind in the morning to see cattle grazing in the field behind the hotel.
All in all, a charming place in a very beautiful area and at a reasonable cost considering all the generous meals.

There seems to be no option to leave a restaurant review for The Hand elsewhere but as food usually plays an important part in any hotel stay I shall leave comment here!

First off, just to say that Llanarmon is a charming and character-filled remote village and the arrival is spectacularly beautiful whichever way you approach. The Hand itself is a lovely building with a nice spacious bar area and a most attractive restaurant. A warm relaxed welcome adds to the appealing ambience.

So the food? Quite simply first rate. We chose starters of Perl Las cheese brûlée and Duck pakora. The pakora was flavoursome, balanced and nicely presented. Possibly the brûlée required just a little more flavour but it was very enjoyable indeed and an excellent concept. Our mains selections of duck with belly pork and lamb cutlets accompanied by perfectly cooked vegetables, mashed potatoes and fluffy centred chips were more or less sublime! Excellent meat expertly cooked. The cassis onions served with the lamb deserve special merit as being both an inspired, unusual idea and a roaring success! All the food was just simply 'right' in that seemingly effortless way that only a good kitchen can achieve.

Highly recommended! We feel sure you will enjoy the journey to Llanarmon and the experience and food when you arrive at The Hand. We plan to stay a day or two the next time we visit so we can do it all over again and for longer!

We live fairly locally (less than 10 miles away) and The Hand is always our first choice to eat. Lovely atmosphere and great food (especially the pies). Can't comment on the rooms but whether you eat in the restaurant or bar it's the food is certainly worth it and there's a good range of beers and wines too. Highly recommended.

Just returned from a 3 night break at this hotel. We've visited for meals many times but this is the first time we've stayed there. Lovely big room with wonderful views over the fields. Really warm welcome and fabulous food throughout our stay. Great to be able to bring the dog. Love that there's no mobile phone signal! Highly recommended

Enjoyed a nice midweek lunch here recently. The hotel is situated down a b-road, well off the beaten track, but with pretty scenery. There is an attractive restaurant and 2 bar areas. They had a good choice of local ales and a varied menu.
I can recommend the gammon and chicken pie - very tasty. My partner enjoyed the scampi. The service was very good, however they lost a mark for me when the owner arrived after walking his dogs and allowed them to roam freely in the bar while customers were eating. Why do some dog owners assume everyone likes dogs ?

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Hand is an ancient hostelry with all the attributes you'd expect - bags of character, a cosy, relaxing ambience and a warm welcome from your hosts, Jonathan and Jackie Greatorex. As soon as you arrive you feel the weight of the world dissolving as the surroundings work their magic. All the classic ingredients are here - old beams, roaring fireplaces, a casual mix-and-match of pine and oak furniture, real ale and good food. The latter is seriously good. Thanks to the talents of Head Chef Grant Mulholland and his team, The Hand is renowned for award-winning food, an inventive marriage of country fare and sophisticated metropolitan cuisine. The bedrooms, in a variety of sizes, reflect similar influences, with rustic decor and sparkling modern bathrooms. Country lovers just love the location. You can walk in the Berwyns for hours with only the sheep for company and the ever-helpful Hand can arrange many country pursuits, including horse riding, fishing and shooting. You may be away from it all, but you'll also be in the swing of things; this gem of a country inn is so much a part of village life that locals and visitors mix in unaffected harmony. ... more   less
