“Lovely B&B and very friendly owners”
Reviewed 27 May 2013

We stayed whilst walking the Offa's Dyke National Trail which runs right past the property. Very friendly welcome and nice room with usual facilities. There's a lovely garden to walk round & sit in and a large airy conservatory for breakfast or to lounge in. The owners made us packed lunches for the walk the next day and despite us checking out were happy for us to leave the car til our return, and also offered us use of a separate bathroom to shower in. Very pretty place and friendly owners - just a shame the bank holiday traffic meant we arrived late and couldn't spend more time enjoying it.

This lovely B & B was ideal for us to stay a short distance from our family home as dad had passed away and we needed a room for Simon who walks with a stick and myself, his wife and carer, to stay so we could spend time with the family and attend dad's funeral.. We were very comfortable and had a special breakfast every day in a garden room which was tranquil and an ideal place to start each day. Malcolm and Swan were excellent hosts and as Plas Ifan is very like our family home in style and character, we felt quite relaxed. The location at the start of the Offas Dyke was great and having walked a lot of the Offas Dyke with my dad brought back lots of special memories. We cannot thank Malcolm and Swan enough for their hospitalityand for being in the right place at the right time.

Room Tip: Talk to Malcolm and Swan about your requirements rather than booking without the intervention of a h...

Stayed here last nite, great service, great breakfast and great rooms, never time i stay in north wales it will be here!! I arrived at around 10.30pm which is quite last for a bed and breakfast but they still dealt with me without fuss even when everywhere else i rang wouldnt due to the time, I normally stay at premier inns and this was every bit as good but with better breakfasts!!

I stayed here many times throughout 2010 and 2011. It's a lovely house to stay in and Malcolm and Swan really made me welcome. I'd stayed in a few B&Bs in Rhyl, St. Asaph and Prestatyn and this one was by far the best. Would recommend to anyone.

Our room was a shock but as we were already late for a big family get to gether we did not have time to find somewhere else to stay. The ceiling was cracked in several places and had a hole approx. 8" x 8" in the corner with insulation material visible. The fireplace and hearth was dirty. The floor was bare floorboards with 2 rugs on top - one of which is stained and dirty. There was plastic trunking and bare copper pipeing down the walls. A large cobweb hung over the single bed. All the items in the room gave the impression of having been aquired at car boot sales - completely mismatched. The bathroom was not adjoining as described but down the hall, passed the lounge and across the corridor. It too had bare floorboards plus a matted rug. There was no bathmat. Both are in need of redecorating. Non of the photos on the website are of the interior of the room we were in. The breakfast room and breakfast was good. I realise this is a B & B and not a hotel but I consider that as we paid £75 for 1 night we were right to expect a much better standard of accommodation. Please do not reply with claims this is a "vicious" review -I have merely told it how we found it to be. I have photos of the hole in the ceiling but am not clever enough to be able to put them onto tripadvisor.

Room Tip: Not the one we stayed in

Upon greeting the couple on arrival, our hospitality was rejected from the begining, refusing assisstance with their luggage or any conversation. During the booking, they requested a bath, we gave them what they asked for with this private bathroom ,a bath and separate shower. It is a big & grand bathroom. The bedroom itself has matching pine furniture, clean rugs on the wooden floor in keeping with the 250yrs old building. As for the ceiling, a bit a cracking is to be expected with the age and character of the property. We are very disappointed that our efforts to guests was not appreciated.
We do take all constructive criticism seriously but insulting comments are not acceptable. Dispite all these, we will continue to serve our guests to our best ability as always.

Stayed one night and wished it was at least a week. Swan and Malcolm welcoming and attentive in very unobtusive way - nothing too much for them. Room warm and comfortable with everything we might have needed. Breakfast first rate, cooked to order rather than cooked kept warm, and plenty of it. The house and garden is absolutely gorgeous, steeped in history and to have use of beautiful garden room instead of being confined to your room or having to go out is an enormous bonus. Sound of running water from garden and beautiful low piped music - NOT POP - over breakfast so relaxing. Will definitely return if in Prestatyn area again. Although not advertised as having "room service" we were told that if we needed extra tea, coffee etc just to let them know, as well as "real" milk rather than little pots if we prefered it.
