Spent one night with the family using it as a base to go shopping into Chester and also before a family wedding in Wales. Got a very good deal on the room which included an excellent breakfast.

A very clean and well managed hotel with all the amenities you could wish for.

Great value for money.

We had a very pleasant stay at this hotel, and would have no hesitation in staying there again. The hotel was very well appointed, clean and comfortable, and the staff were very friendly, polite and helpful. The food was also of a high standard. This hotel offers great value for money.

A pleasant clean and modern facility. Initially disappointed with the room becasue of the sound of traffic through but when we mentioned it to reception we were instantly relocated to a much quieter one. Nice flat screen tv but not a great choice in channels.
Really comfortable bed.
I hadn't been aware that it was going to be a bit like a Travelodge (bring your own soap etc and no biscuits with the tea!) but that's not a major issue.
One downside is that more signage would have been useful; it took us awhile to find our way around until we were more familiar with the surroundings.
Buffet breakfast was the same every day but quite ample and nicely prepared. Yummy scrambled eggs!
We had one evening meal there on a room deal. It was fantastic.
Staff were all extremely pleasant.
We enjoyed the spa facilities and Chester is a great city to explore.

Room Tip: Ask for a room not looking out to the main road where the heavy traffic is!

I'm a once a month hotel visitor, usually £100 - £150 per night hotels for either one or two nights. I work hard during the week so I like to take time out every four weeks to relax and unwind with my girlfriend.

I'd wanted to stay in a De Vere hotel for a while as most of their venues fit the bill for me - gym, pool and simple food on-site. I read that they'd launched the Upper Deck and found it had been installed at this hotel (De Vere Chester) forty five minutes away and was close to one of my favourite towns (Chester). My girlfriend booked and paid for the room as a gift.

Finding the hotel was easy, there were plenty of parking outside (spaces are a bit tight) and check-in was fairly easy. We carried our bags to the back of the hotel where Upper Deck rooms were. Minor issues: you have to walk through the middle of a Starbucks, it's easy to get lost as the signs stop pointing the way, the light on the lift button didn't work so you didn't know if the lift was coming.

The room itself was ok (room 337), not quite as good as we'd expected but better than a budget hotel. The window satch wouldn't close properly so it was freezing in the room and remained so all night (I went to reception to report this but there was a queue out the door so avoided). The bathroom is pretty average, not bad in any way but not quite as nice as the nearby Hilton Double tree or at the Hand Picked Hotel in Cheshire. One of the better features was having Sky TV (with a Sky Remote) which means if you spend any time in the room you can watch the channels you view at home. Having Starbucks in the room isn't that great - instead of nice glasses for water you get plastic Starbucks ones and paper thin Starbucks napkins. The coffee is just the same as any other, especially when you pour in those tiny milk cartons.

The worst feature about the room, and the trip, was the noise. We were one door down from the door on to that floor which slammed loudly all the time and shook our front door. At 10pm it slammed every ten seconds for almost half an hour, and then started again in the morning. It was a real shame as the bed was comfy, but from 7am onwards it was banging and waking us up.

Our room price included breakfast (fancy free buffet but nice, except had to go three plates deep in to the pile to find one that didn't have specks of dirt or food on it) and an evening meal. We had to be out of the hotel at 8:30pm so we went down to the "Village Pub" at 6:30pm and ordered promptly - the service was so slow that we left late at 8:31pm (we had to leave our deserts half eaten to get out in time). The food was average, but not bad, but the wait was just annoying especially as it was a bit rowdy.

The gym was the real highlight of the hotel, but as with other areas of the hotel the attention to detail almost ruined it. If you head in to the changing rooms (very small, full of families and hard to get changed in) you've got no idea where the gym is. There's no signs, so you have to head back to reception. Turns out you have to go along the corridor, and up stairs (no signs) and then you find two rooms (one weights, one spinning). To find the other part of the gym (again, no signs) you have to turn a corner, go along a corridor, up more stairs and then around another corner. When in the weights room I noticed four couples wandering in looking for the main gym so I pointed them in the right direction, what cost a sign?

The pool area was pretty average, it was busy and I have never seen so many kids and families in such a small pool. If one more had got in it would have burst. Forget about relaxing due to the screaming and the noise. The jacuzzi was small and always full, the sauna was good (if a bit small again!) and the steam room was about as steamy as a bathroom an hour after a shower. Took my towel back to reception and they said there was a towel bin - you have to come outside of the changing rooms, then go to a another room opposite and there's a bin in a corner, no signs as before.

Some other minor issues:

Comments card in the room had detailed filled in from previous guest, including personal information.
No menu in room for on-site restaurants, just a room service menu.

No hotel is perfect, and you often have to overlook minor imperfections to have a good stay - this hotel had so many imperfections that it was almost completely un-enjoyable. A lot was made in the press release I read about Upper Deck, but the quality control and attention to detail was very poor. I won't stay in a De Vere (or group) hotel again, and am pretty unhappy with wasting my time in this hotel.

although the address is Chester it is a good 20 minute drive to the centre of Chester. We went for a family weekend to celebrate a 60th birthday. The first night we were there we are in the hotel - the food was ok but not suitable for children and limited children's menu. Some of the staff were friendly but others got a little rattled when the restaurant got busy. There was a good choice at breakfast although more than two fruit juices would have been nice. Also there tended to be a queue waiting while stocks got replenished. As far as the bedrooms go they were spacious enough and clean although was not too keen on the blanket on the bottom of the bed. One tip if you do stay here - ask for a room away from the motorway. Constant traffic throughout the night and then the laundry van arrived at 8.00am right outside our window. Overall not a bad hotel for the money although drinks at the bar were expensive.

Room Tip: as mentioned above ask for a room away from the motorway side of the hotel.

I cannot fault this hotel AT ALL. Before going to St Davids, i read some of the previous reviews to check out what everyone thought about it and i really dont understand the bad ones!
The rooms are very large and spacious, very modern and well decorated. There are a few things that could be touched up a little but it really doesnt affect the stay or the comfort.
The buffet breakfast was lovely, wasnt pleased with there only being brown bread left on 2 of the 3 mornings that we stayed but i'm really not a fussy person and as long as theres plenty of food i dont mind.
I would recommend this hotel to anyone as it was such a beautiful hotel. Right opposite to a lovely pub with great food!

Immaculate room..tv wifi etc...bring your ipod and that can be connected tio the rooms sound system..
Breakfast is ok and the staff are very helpful..
the 3 course early bird menu at £11.95 is good value..
The leisure facility is large very modern and well organised. loads of different sessions..

Overall a good hotel at a sensible price.. It is about 10 miles from Chester just off the A55 at ewloe.. I did not find the traffic noise a problem..

The hotel is being refurbished to a high standard..

Would I visit again..Yes ..
