“Great food and great staff”
Reviewed 19 July 2014 via mobile

We took my mum and step-dad to Bontnewydd last week. We thought we would try the Newborough Arms as it was only down the road from the cottage where we were staying. I'm so glad we did. We were made very welcome there. A previous reviewer stated there wasn't much to choose from on the menu. I have to disagree. I felt there was an excellent choice and all courses very reasonably priced. In fact, we were spoilt for choice. The currys, chilli, carbonaras, steak and ale pie were very obviously all home made with good quality tasty ingredients. I didn't have the mixed grill, as there looked so much in it, I didn't think I would be able to eat it all. It looked exceptional good value though. We tried working our way through the menu and can truly say every dish we had was delicious and cooked perfectly. The presentation of the food was excellent too. The staff and owner were very friendly and went the extra mile to make us feel welcome. Fellow diners were also friendly, which I felt created a great atmosphere. We dined there 5 nights. The other 2 we had already booked before leaving home. Whilst the food was good in the other 2 restaurants, they were both very impersonal and there wasn't the ambience of the Newborough Arms. When we next go to North Wales, we'll definitely be back there. Thank you to the chefs and staff who served and made us so welcome.

“Friendly good food good beer!”
Reviewed 1 June 2014

Within walking distance of our lodging at Plas Dinas. Provided the Welsh Pub atmosphere we were looking for, the bartender and crowd were friendly and the food was very good!

“Couldn't look any more ordinary from the outside, food couldn't have been any nicer inside”
Reviewed 1 May 2014

I don't know why the food should be so good in what is a reasonably ordinary pub. It's of city gastropub standard, proper lamb burgers with ciabatta as the 'bun', posh chips, homemade lasagne and cracking beef. Great.

“A pleasant pub with great food and service, well worth a visit…..”
Reviewed 24 April 2014

Stopping in heavy easter weekend traffic we found this to be a worthwhile stop before entering the nearby Castle town of Caernarvon.A typical local pub with a pleasant atmosphere within, happy helpful staff and choices to snack at the bar and adjacent areas, their gallery style main room or the garden outside.the food choices were more than adequate and fish and chips in a huge portion and I had salmon with parsley sauce well presented in a timely manner and piping hot, this together with the local ales made a very pleasant stop for an hour or more.Be careful of the narrow corner outside as it will not take wide vehicles.Overall well worth a visit ……………….
