“Lovely place, great location”
Reviewed 25 September 2011

We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. The owners are lovely, friendly and helpful. The room was nice and clean. If the weather isn't great (which is wasn't for us) there is a lounge residents can sit in with a view down to the sea. The breakfast was lovely with a good selection of cereals and cooked breakfast. The location of the hotel is great, directly by the castle and the sea at the end of the road. Would stay here again if in the area.

Having read the varying reviews, we were very happy with our choice, comfortable and relaxed hotel, room spacious, well equipped, excellent views of sea and castle. Owners very welcoming and helpful without being intrusive, food more than adequate, enjoyed our drinks in the bar with Emlyn, will certainly go again .

Had a 3 night short stay (August 2011 Bank Holiday) at the Marine Hotel, and got exactly what we paid for a two star hotel, standard, clean, tidy and roomy accommodation for a twin room.

The accommodation had tea and coffee making facilities, complimentary shampoo, soap and shower gel, portable digital TV and hair dryer with plenty of storage space. Could have done with a few extra hangers but hay. Breakfast included in rate and was more than sufficient to set you up for the day. Licence bar on premises so if the weather gets to wet you could always sit in the bar and have a drink and it's literally 100 yards from the beach where we saw dolphins. All are welcome as they cater for couples, families and pets.

Worst thing we found was that the weather had just turned and it may have been time to consider turning the heating on but plenty of bed covers and an extra blanket was left in the wardrobe so we more than managed.

Best things are location, breakfast, a comfortable nights sleep and hosts who are more than willing to share their local knowledge and even went out their way to check the weather forecast on the internet for us.

Thanks for a lovely stay would definately use this accommodation if I go that way again for a short break.

We were at The Marine Hotel for a family function and my family, friends and I have never been treated in such an unprofessional way than how Martin and Gaynor, the hoteliers who run the Marine, treated our family and friends. Told to SHUT UP, while we were all enjoying a great evening and buying numerous drinks at their bar!! We felt like scolded children. The food we had was awful. All frozen and microwaved. There are no kitchen staff; the bathrooms are old and moldy. My family has frequented the Marine for decades and it makes me very sad that a great place has become sooooo run down. These people should not be running a hotel. Read all the reviews. Everyone agrees it is run down and even though it has a good location the meeting rooms and hallways are dirty and many locals refuse to come there anymore. There are far better locations to stay in Criccieth with better sea views and Castle views and great hospitality. As far as a drinking establishment is concerned the Bar area is seedy and dingy and the beer selections is poor; every other pub in Criccieth is a better choice. Avoid at all costs.

We had gathered as a family to celebrate a very special occasion. We had already attended a celebration to the occasion overseas, but got together again in Criccieth to include the friends and family who had been unable to travel.

It's fair to say that Basil Fawlty would have been embarrased.

"Turn the music down" came the shrilling call from the 'owner?' We were not allowed to enjoy ourselves, we had to sit quietly and not have much fun!

Food. You know the sort of stuff you see in a cheap supoermarket and think - oh that looks disgusting? That sort of stuff.

Toilets. Used cleaner portaloos at agricultral shows.

Location. Superb.

Conclusion. Shouldn't be allowed.

I stayed one night in Marine Hotel in room 8. It was a large family room with a mountain view. It was clean with a comfortable bed and lovely white cotton sheets and lovely white fluffy towels. In fact the sheets and towels were comparable with any four star hotel. The breakfast was good with a varied selection and plenty of it. (I didn't need lunch that day). The hotel does need updating and attention could be paid to grout round shower base. However, for a one night business stay it was completely adequate and a good budget hotel. Just down the road check out the ice cream shop and the chip shop, both are excellent.

I have been going to Criccieth for 32 years as my husbands familly have always lived there,i attended a function there and was shocked to find out how run down the hotel had become, the toilets had mold growing and the buffet was that they provided was awful.
I found the owner rude and unhelpful and dont think they are in the right trade.
I live in Cornwal where the tourist trade is the biggest income and have owned my own B@B for many years,i know many people in the tourist industry and have never come across the people who now run the hotel, it is such a shame when a place goes down hill after so many happy years.
I would not recommend this hotel as there much better places to stay in Criccieth that are much better.
