We had a family room at the Marine hotel at the end of Oct 13 - Mum and dad + 2 cheeky chappies 6&8. Good value - This was just the ticket; comfie good food and plenty of it. Lovely couple Gaynor and Martin running the show - they couldn't do enough for us.
Great position in the town - no need for a car here. 10 mins from the station and bus stops. Great area to explore.
Ideal for a family in and out to the beach and hills.
Would we come again - yes!

Room Tip: Pay a bit more to get a sea view.

As a last minute trip there were few hotels in the area with a twin room available, so choice was limited. Marine hotel is in a nice position near the sea & castle with parking opposite. Ours was a suite room with a sofa in the main room & the actual beds in a little room separated by french doors. Pros - The beds were very comfortable; windows open-able; we had a side view of the sea; the room was clean & the bathroom adequate. Cons - the sofa in the 'main' room was a sofa bed, it was very low (I had trouble getting up off it) and not that comfy. We only had breakfast, so can't comment on evening meals, but that was a pleasant surprise with a choice of cooked items plus cereals & juice. We drank on both nights in the bar at the rear of the hotel, but thought the owners were missing a trick not having this at the front of the property to catch passing trade. The owners themselves were friendly & very pleasant. On the whole it's a pleasant little hotel which probably needs a bit of updating.

We had a Superior Room, with lovely views towards the castle & the sea. We saw dolphins on 3 days - wonderful! The king-sized bed was extremely comfortable, with the softest plump pillows ever. The hotel was very quaint & charming, homely and extremely clean. The owners were very welcoming, kind and friendly and the food was very good. We stayed 14 nights, so we had 14 good breakfasts and dinner most nights. The menu was extensive, very varied, so much to choose from, but we enjoyed all the meals we had in the hotel, lovely fresh vegetables, with our very favourite being 'steak and kidney pudding'! The hotel was in a lovely place, with much to visit all around, within a easy reach of castles, railways, museums. Highly recommended!

Room Tip: This 'superior' room was well worth it.

Gutted, or rather it needs gutting and starting again. One for the Hotel Inspector I feel... Our 'superior' room was laughable. An added feature was a damp patch on the ceiling with falling plaster. The decor was hideous - nothing matched. It most certainly was not worth the price - £86.
The food was ok, again nothing special or worth writing home about. The best aspect of the hotel is the cleanliness. It really was spotless, another suggestion that the owners do try, but just don't cut the mustard.
I wouldn't stay there again. There are much better options in Criccieth.

Very bad experience on our first visit to Wales. Stayed in the Marine hotel Friday 28th and Sat 29th June as we had pre booked the room online.
We booked and paid for the best available room at the time. When we arrived we were shown to a room at the back of the hotel with a view of a building across the street that had the paint peeling off and a narrow view of the sea.
The room was confined, shabby and in poor condition. There was rust on the radiator, paint marks on the furniture, two whicker chairs in the room had filthy dirty cushions and the arms were well worn. The bed had an old and worn bedspread and duvet cover. Pillows were not comfortable, quite flat, only positive was the clean white sheets on the bed. A set of bunk beds in the room took up a lot of space and gave a claustrophobic feeling. Small flat screen TV on the wall was the best thing about it.
The bathroom was tiny, in an alcove, floor dirty with hairs and the shower base covered in mould, really disgusting. Bad DIY job done on the woodwork around toilet and sink.
As we paid top price for the room we complained and the woman owner said this was the room we paid for, as the hotel had vacancies we asked could we be moved to a room at the front of the hotel, a family room with a view of the sea.
She said she didn’t have availability for two nights but then phoned us from reception to say she could move someone and we could have a better room if we paid another £30 pounds. We were really annoyed to be asked for more money and also did not want to inconvenience another guest and said no.
Downstairs, the living room window, with a view to the sea, had a crack through it and the outside of the hotel was neglected and in disrepair. We were dreading breakfast but it was fine thankfully.
We compared other hotel rates in Criccieth to discover that we were paying the top rate for the Marine. On the day we left my husband reiterated our complaint and was told by Martin that he had a lot of happy customers and that technically as we booked on the web we were customers of hotel.com and not of the Marine hotel. Very poor customer service. We complained to the web site company we booked through and asked for a £50 refund which we calculated would match other rates in Criccieth for that weekend, we agreed to a £30 refund as they said they have administration costs to cover.

Nice location - take care when booking a £10 sea view room - you will get a 1foot glimpse of water between a big rock and another building! Room ok - carpet very stained and shower looked so dirty we didn't use it - mould all over the sealant - yuk. Food good and nice breakfast. Biggest problem was the mattress was shot. Barely slept it was so uncomfortable. Very nice staff so much to commend but overall I felt I was generous giving an 'average' score.

Stayed for three nights, hotel was very clean and comfortable. Booked superior double, which was spacious and had fantastic views of the castle and sea. Owners very friendly and helpful. Bar an added bonus, even a quiz on sunday evening.....we came a very close last! Only downside was lack of wifi, was available but I was unable to access (as were others)
Perfect location for exploring Snowden and the Llyn peninsula. Would recommend to friends.
