An odd little place at first glance, slightly kitschy decor and an 'oldschool' 2 room layout (bar/restaurant). We ate in the bar as the restaurant room was full. Bar was packed with local lads who were in a good natured Saturday night mood and had no problem constantly moving for us to get up to the bar (its quite cramped inside). This is no out of this world gastronomic experience, and the menu is quite limited compared to what some 'pub' menus are becoming, but you get the feeling every dish 'does what it says on the tin'. My burger was fantastic and the other half's kickin' chicken (or something similar) was again tasty and satisfying. Huge portions, honest food and a real pub atmosphere. I nearly forgot... one burger, one chicken thingy, (both massive) a pint of real ale, half a Guinness and bag of bacon fries... £24!!!!!!! Wouldn't be far off 30-40 quid elsewhere...

Very good food and wine menu. We had the rib eye steak special and the fish pie, excellent choice by us as this was fantastic. Only down point was the frozen fries but hey ho the food was fab.

Great service, very friendly and our dog was allowed in the bar.

Good all round pub, thank you

Good home cooked food, very busy with local people and holiday makers which is a good sign, our hotel recommended it to us. \the food arrived hot, quick and well presented and was very tasty and the lager was lovely and cold, all in all a very good meal.

Having read the excellent reviews we really wanted to like this place. The pub is traditional and exceptionally welcoming in spite of being very busy! A good sign.

Beer excellent. Great engaging humour from the landlord.

We ordered two medium sirloins which sadly were not to scratch. They were certainly not medium and had clearly suffered from being cooked for too long on a low heat resulting in tough, stewed beef. What a shame!

A neighbouring table's burger looked smashing!

I'll reserve judgement and still want to like the place.

Having booked into a B&B only hotel, we were able to sample the local cuisine available in Criccieth. As with the experiences of other reviewers, it was raining when we first dashed into the Castle, only to be met by the genial 'mine host' who immediately dispelled the gloom and made us feel at home. All the staff treated us royally, and the home cooked food portions were large and beautifully presented. This place became our 'local' whilst we stayed in Criccieth, and I'm tempted to move there so I could be a permanent customer!!
