The Lion Hotel is a great place to stay. Close to the sea and shops. We spent four nights in a clean, comfortable en-suite room. The hotel is very, very clean and nicely decorated and furnished. The restaurant offers a superb variety of food which is beautifully cooked, attractively presented. and always hot. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. One nice thing - all the coat hangers in our wardrobe matched. Something often lacking in hotels these days.

If you are visually impaired, this is the place to stay. The hotel is well planned and all amenities are easy to find.

We will be back.

Maybe it was 3 star but will it keep it, not sure about that. Our room was cold and not surprising as the main window which had been screwed shut had massive gaps which I had to use toilet paper to stop the wind blowing in, this is bad maintenance. 2 of the light bulbs had gone and I had to swap a hall light bulb to fix that also. Generally the hotel decor is tired and it shows. The breakfast was good and the guys doing it also unfortunately the evening staff let it down, not so much for us but for what I could see and hear how they were treating other paying guests. They seemed reluctant to open the restaurant room for hotel guests at night and that means in the bar area you go and that is not always that friendly. For example some guests could not find tables to eat at but some off duty staff were using tables for casual drinks and we're not going to give them up at all and I heard staff say that they have to have some perk. I am sorry but this is a hotel and guests pay the wages. Do I know the area ? Well yes for over 30 years I pass by on the way to abersoch but I think I will stay somewhere else next time, if paying more makes for a better time then it is worth going somewhere better to be honest. Will they still be 3 star in future, well they need to work on that, today's traveller has moved on too.

Room Tip: Do not go for family room as standards are lower and choose a sea front room as warmer

Just returned from a 4 night stay at this hotel. Twin room (14) was Ok. Comfortable beds and nicely furnished. The breakfast is self service and a very good selection of cereals, fresh fruit, etc. etc. We found the young staff very friendly and helpful. The evening meals were very good with unusual starters and desserts. Plenty meat and vegetables for the main course and very hot food, which isn't always the case in most hotels. The lounge area is very comfortably furnished although a bit dated. The hotel entrance is directly onto the road with no pavement to step onto, so this can be a real danger when leaving the hotel as the road leads directly from the main High St. There is a small area just outside the entrance with 2 tables and 4 benches which lead to the bar area. The hotel always seemed busy especially the bar area. It is on a steep hill so not really for disabled people. All in all we enjoyed our stay.

Our coach party travelled from South East England on a Grand Coastal Tour of Wales. The first night of our 3-night stay was marred by bar/kitchen staff with raised raucous voices and rattling of empty bottles at 11.45 p.m. beneath our bedroom window. I was forced to get up and complain at the noise and that we needed some rest after our long journey. We found the hotel "tired" and in serious need of re-furbishment. In our bedroom underneath the dressing table there was a layer of dust on the skirting board, cobwebs on the uplighter lampshade. In the bathroom the tiles beneath the shower had mould in the grouting. Toilet was reasonably clean, but could have been improved upon. Meals were average, but at evening meal on our table of six persons we needed to ask constantly for another bottle of prepared water as only one supplied. Same story at breakfast . . .one rack of toast (6 halves) was totally inadequate. as was the meagre supply of marmalade in a small dish . What has happened to common sense and organisation ! ! The cooked breakfast was average, but tinned tomatoes only when fresh ones are available, baked beans every day, so where were the mushrooms to give a daily variation? Black pudding and fried bread would have been nice too! I have been posting reviews on Trip Advisor for many years and this is one of the most unsatisfactory hotels I have come across. 3 Star rating . . . IT IS NOT!

Stayed at the Lion hotel for 2 nights to attend a friends wedding. 1st impressions of the hotel was that it could do with a little tlc. Our room was spacious enough and we had lovely views from our 2 windows but unfortunately the decor needed modernising. The bathroom was lovely and modern so I think work is in progress. Did feel that the £90 a night was a little expensive. I felt very sorry for the guests staying in the room below ours as the floor boards were extremely creaky. The shower enclosure was very small and the shower arm would not hold the shower steady so it would constantly twist around or drop. The mattress was extremely hard and uncomfortable so had distrupted sleep from waking with dead hips and legs. The staff were friendly enough and the breakfast choices were good. Found the cooked breakfast nice but a little too greasy for my liking. Did ask 2 different members of staff for more toast which never arrived and 1 even sighed at us and took our side plates away. However on the 2nd morning my husband wasn't feeling very well and couldn't face the dining room so they kindly allowed me to take toast and tea upstairs to him. An average stay. Would probably look to stay somewhere else if we were to return to the beautiful little village of criccieth.

Room Tip: lovely views from front bedrooms at top of hotel.

Stayed 2 nights in this hotel in the centre of town. Our room was outside the main hotel adjacent to the car park. The room was small and as others have said in need of some TLC. The main income for the hotel seems to be coach parties containing senior citizens which really sets the scene. On one night there was entertainment which consisted of a mature person strumming on his guitar with songs from the appropriate era. We found the food to be good although presentation at breakfast could have been better. We found the staff to be friendly and helpful. All in all not a bad stay.
