“Absolutely wonderful”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 May 2012

My husband and I visited for 2 nights recently and it was faultless. The hotel is newly renovated and is modern but tasteful. The bar, the lounge and the restaurant all have beautiful views of the bay and the sea. The quality of food was nothing short of excellent and reasonably priced. Cricceith is unspoilt and with the castle lit up at night is absolutely lovely.

It's worth paying extra for the sea views. We had room 35 which is on the 3rd floor and the bed faces the sea so you can literally lie in bed and look at the sea. The room and the bathroom were both very spaceous.

All the staff were friendly and helpful.

We would highly recommend this place and can't wait to visit again.

We spent two nights here - the room was superb, the staff were outstanding, the food unsurpassed, the views were stunning - photos don't do it justice. We saw no other establishment in the area which came remotely close to the Caerwylan standards and we're already planning another weekend there. Rates very competitive indeed, wine/beer were more than reasonably priced, what an absolute pleasure it was to be there - we were very sorry to leave! Top tip - take the time to visit the National Trust property Plas yn Rhiw (Pwllheli) LL53 8AB nearby - it's a small house to visit, but the gardens offer the most spectacular views from the gardens in the entire UK! Stunning. Fabulous trip!

Room Tip: We had a view of the castle at the side of the hotel rather than the sea at the front. The castle w...

Enjoyed a very nice afternoon tea at this establishment. The decor is very tasteful and the views from the lounge are very nice. However, we had to wait a while upon finishing and indeed upon arrival for any member of staff to emerge. As no one materialised to give us our bill, we left the money on the table (including a tip) and left the establishment. We were then followed and approached by a girl who told us in front of a number of bystanders that we 'hadn't paid'. We explained that we had left the money on our table. She sighed a sigh of relief and walked away without apologising and without thanking us for our custom. It is very humiliating to be accused of theft and then not receive even a modicum of an apology. As it is common practice for people to leave money on the table, this staff member should have checked before making such an abrupt accusation. I must say that the girl who served us was very pleasant, however this particular staff member needs to address the manner in which they deal with customers. This left a blemish on what could been a nice afternoon out.

I stayed for two nights and was seriously impressed!

The hotel is in an excellent location next to a quiet beach, with excellent views of the bay and mountains behind. Criccieth is a quiet, relaxing place and is close enough to the main spots in the National Park. Actually, I found it quite refreshing to head to the coast after a day in the mountains!

The staff were friendly - the cleaners all said hello (don't think this is a pre-requisite for the job, but it was appreciated!) and I was impressed by the waiting staff, who were excellent in a low-key, unfussy way!

The communal areas are lovely - nice lounge and restaurant. Speaking of the restaurant, the breakfasts were nice and the evening meal was really excellent. It's open to the public and would be well worth a visit even if not staying. Oh - spotless cutlery too!

The room was very clean and a decent size. The bathroom was also very clean and had a excellent shower. In case this review seems too "positive" - I have one extremely mild criticism RE: the room. It was a bit cold on the first night. However, I asked for a blanket for the second night and this was provided. Also there was an extra heater in the room and they said it would have been fine to leave this on. They also explained it was a room with 3 outside walls, so was a bit harder keep warm. To be honest - April in Wales is hard to judge heating-wise - can be pretty hot or freezing (often within a few minutes)!

Overall, I was very impressed with this place! I think they are still in the process of upgrading certain areas and it will be even nicer then.

I'm from a small Welsh seaside town originally myself and it's great to see hotels like this, as it will give visitors a very good impression of the area. I think it offers great value for money - many hotels in my town and in the UK charge much more and offer a vastly inferior experience.

When I left, I felt it was appropriate to leave a tip-primarily for the waiters/waitresses, but all the frontline staff deserved it. This is not something I've ever felt compelled to do before!

All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and would definitely book again if/when visiting the area.

The hotel looks great on the website but is even better in reality. We chose Criccieth as it was away from the more busy and touristy areas nearby. Usually, there is a corresponding drop in the level of home comforts, but it is as well equipped as any hotel in a major city. The views from our Executive room were stunning, so much so that we didn't even switch on our television, apart from to listen to Radio 6 via the digital TV to compliment our vista. Even the loo had a fabulous view and was referred to as the 'Loo With A View' throughout our stay. The room was very quiet, with no noise from neighbours or the street, bed super comfortable and obviously of a high quality. Food in the restaurant was fantastic, and very good value. Check out the castle, walk on the beach and enjoy the views!

Room Tip: We would recommend a room with a sea view.
