We booked this holiday after our initial holiday to New York was cancelled due to the hurricane that hit the states in August last year, because we had left it till the last minute our choice was limited but thankfully we managed to book a week in Dolgun Uchaf.
We knew Dolgellau as we have walked there many times and know that the scenery and walking opportunities are stunning with Cadar Idris being a very enjoyable challenge.
The accomodation itself was of a very high standard exceptionally clean with very helpful staff who were more than happy to help and also served up a cracking cooked breakfast with a good selection of cereal, fruit, and even muffins! The accomodation can be found off the main road (keep your eyes open for the sign just after the petrol station) set in lush greenery.
A very enjoyable stay we even had a couple days of sunshine which helped!
I can also recommend the Indian restaurant (can't remember the name?) that can be found in Dolgellau town centre.

"Our Guest Rooms are tastefully furnished to a high standard all are ensuite providing Comfort, Luxury and Elegance"
The above is not true for the room we stayed in (annex). It looked like the cupboards (along entire wall) and headboards were from the early 70s. Only one night stand had a lamp (twin beds). TV was larger than most b & b's. Tea tray was very good. Towel warmer is nice. Two out of three lights in bathroom didn't work. Towels need replacing due to fraying and thinness. Breakfast area was quite nice. Breakfast was typical b and b fare but served on nicely laid tables. Nice communal area in annex. The one in the main house smelled of some kind of bad men's cologne. Nice gardens and views. Recommend it but don't expect much from the furnishings.

Room Tip: Annex was quiet. No other guest rooms are right next to the rooms in the annex. Most guests are in t...

I stayed with my two teenagers in room 6 - billed as a family room. The room was indeed large, with plenty of storage space, but would best be described as a twin room with zed-bed for a diminutive third guest! Having said this, the room was clean and appeared newly refurbished, with a splendid shower room and a large flat-screen tv.

The breakfast room was also a pleasant environment, but retaining far more olde worlde charm. The location is certainly stunning, and the grounds and house itself are very pretty - my only other quibble being the difficulty of finding a parking space if you come back late in the evening

Room Tip: Although the family room (room 6) does sleep three, I think three large adults would struggle

Dolgun Uchaf is an odd little B&B off the beaten track just a couple of minutes drive from the town of Dolgellau.
We had room 8 and after paying for what we thought would be a double room with ensuite, we were very surprised and delighted to get our own little apartment.
Narrow stairs, from our own front door, led up to an open plan lounge/kitchen. There is a fridge, cooker, sink, dishwasher and plenty of cupboard space. A two seater leather look cream sofa and a large TV.
The bathroom has a fabulous shower, shaving point and shaving mirror.
The bedroom is small but with the rest of the apartment, it doesn't need to be big. There is ample hanging space and shelves in the built in cupboard, and I would find it difficult to remember a more comfortable bed. I slept like a log all 3 nights that we stayed. The pillows are soft but supportive, the duvet is warm and the bedding was crisp white linen.
We cooked on the first night, cutlery and crockery and a few cooking utensils are provided.
Breakfast is served within quite a small time frame, 8am until 9.15am, and taken in the main part of the house. Plenty of choice for cereal, full english breakfast and toast, tea/coffee plus muffins.
There's plenty of parking space and the B&B also runs a campsite on the fields attached but we had no problems with noise from the campers.
My partner and I stayed for 3 nights and loved it.
P.S. Only tiny problem was that although there is a Sky box under the tv and it comes up as Sky, there are only a limited amount of freeview channels available.

Room Tip: If you want the little apartment, ask for room 8.

Have just returned from a night in Dolgun Uchaf B&B and would not rate our room as 4 star for the following reasons: The window could not be closed leaving a large gap - not good on a windy and rainy night( see also other review from July by vanetoni70), the reading lamps were broken - one with no light bulb, the bed was very uncomfortable and we could feel every spring, and the breakfast was mediocre. Would I stay again? no thanks!
