“Great getaway from it all - lovely idyllic spot”

For anyone who really wants a totally secluded break away from it all this is the place to go. We hardly knew the owners were there. If you are staying there and don't intend going anywhere else for a few days, get your supplies in and you will be fine.
Also on the positive side you can walk straight from the cottage and onto Cader Idris which we did on the second to last day.

Just be aware that the drive up the hill to the cottage is not for the faint hearted but you do get used to it after a few days. Also be aware that the cottage is part of a working farm so there are sheep milling about in the fields but the lambs were great fun to watch in the evenings. The bird life was also amazing. There are also a few dogs in a kennel about fifty metres away from the cottage which did bark now and again, which could spoil the peace and quiet, especially when the rabbits hopped in to the yard where the dogs are kept.

Liked best: The views and sitting by the stream in the evenings
Liked least: The dogs barking early in the morning, there was also a lot of discarded building materials and a trampoline and swing within 50 metres of the cottage which looked a bit untidy.

“A lovely cottage miles from anywhere”

We received a warm welcome from Sandra and we couldn't have been more pleased with the little cottage that was warm, comfortable and clean. There was even a little tea tray laid out with some cake. Just what we needed after a long drive. We drank our tea sitting in a little garden area that has been set up for the cottage users right next to stream overlooking the beautiful mountains. We had the mountains on our doorstep and took a short but strenous walk up the nearest one which took us around 1800ft and with spectacular views. The nearest shops were to be found in the lovely village of Dollgellau. We recommend the Eurospar which is expensive but is a 'foodie's' delight with lots of locally sourced produce. We found this cottage a wonderful base for the week as we sampled the different delights of north and mid Wales. Aberystwyth is worth a visit, this very clean and well looked after University town was a nice alternative to your 'kiss me quick' style seaside resorts. We rode on the cliff railway which allowed us a good view over the coastline as it was a glorious day. Barmouth which isn't too far is more of a 'kiss me quick' style sea side but the fish and chips that we got from The Mermaid on Jubilee Street redeemed the place for us, they were delicious. Other good places to visit were Portmeirion village, Plas Brondanw [just 5 miles from there and was the family home of Clough Williams Ellis the designer of Portmeirion. We drove all through the snowdonia nature reserve hoping to take the Snowdon Mountain Railway but decided against it when we discovered it would cost us between £27 - 35 per person! All in all, a wonderful week spent at a lovely cottage.

“Cosy cottage, beautiful situated on a small sheepfarm. You can make walks out of your frontdoor.”

This cottage is suitable for people who like to get out of the rush of every daylife. It's peaceful and quiet up there. The location is perfect if you like to make walks. Around Dolgellau there are also lots of walks possible, just go to the tourist office. The westcoast of Wales is nearby to visit. Within an hour drive you find castles and there are interesting cities on the north side of Wales. A visit to Portmeirion, a village created in Itilian style, is a special discovery. Anyone who loves steamtrains can make a lot of trips in this region.
