Nothing special here. The menu is average pub-type food, the staff pleasant & helpful. Décor is dowdy & could do with freshening up. But it's in the centre of Dolgellau & convenient.

This is a friendly pub serving pub grub. The food is good home cooking, nothing special but good value. The staff were friendly and happy for us to bring the dogs into the bar area. We had sunday roast which was excellent value (3 courses for around £12.99 I think) and ordered off the menu another time. Good wifi.

We visited this restaurant last year and had a lovely meal so we decided to visit again this year. I wish we hadn't bothered. We booked a table as there were 7 of us. It was quite busy but it didn't take too long to order however we were then waiting for nearly an hour and a half to receive our food even though other tables were ordering after us and getting their food first! We eventually asked to speak to the manager as our children were really fed up and he apologised and offered us a free round of drinks which we thought was fair enough. Our meal came and it was so disappointing. The curry sauce tasted burnt which spoilt the while flavour. None of the meals were up to standard which spoilt a holiday meal with friends! We asked for the bill and to top off a bad night there was a bottle of wine on it that we hadn't had. When we complained about it the staff seemed more concerned about finding out who needed to pay for the bottle than giving us an apology. I would never eat here again!!!

Went for Sunday lunch as a group of 3 adults and 2 kids.

The kids food was fine - one had chicken dippers chips and beans, the other had fish chips and peas. The kids meals were £4 and fairly good portions, my constantly starving 9 year old was happy anyway.

The Sunday lunch was okay, not super impressed with the variety of veg and the roast potatoes were burnt.

The vegetarian option was so bad it was almost funny. The menu advertised a leek crumbke , which sounds lovely. But no. What was actually served was an overpoweringly flavoured cheese sauce soup with breadcrumbs sprinkled on stingy-ly as an afterthought. Inside the soup/crumble were a couple of bits of (possibly frozen) veg. There was more carrot in there than leek!
Guess what it was served with? The exact same stuff as was inside it, but minus the cheese sauce, one piece of cauliflower and two tiny boiled new potatoes. Oh how you spoil us.

I sent my food back to the kitchen and went hungry because that was the only vegetarian option and it was just a crap effort to be honest.

Would not return unless they sort themselves out.

We had never eaten in Dolgellau before and called in the Royal Ship to have a drink and glance at the menu. There was a lot of choice at reasonable prices so decided to stay and eat. We are so glad we did, the meal was excellent and plenty of it. I had the curry of the day which came with rice, poppadums and mango chutney. The sauce was delicious. My partner had the Steak and ale pie with veg which looked equally as good. We will definately be eating there when we visit Dolgellau again
