Only stayed here for a drink whilst looking around the village, but lovely place friendly service and the food we did see looked fabulous.

Excellent visit to the royal ship restaurant. We were welcomed with pleasant staff who were wonderful throughout out visit. The food was of a very high standard and my steak cooked perfect. Nice, relaxed atmosphere in the restaurant and bar area made for an enjoyable night. Will be visiting again when in the area!

On a busy Friday night, we asked for a table and were told 'we could fit you in in perhaps an hour'. The hour came and went, no attempt was made to update us (as we sat and drank at the bar) and we had to keep checking , always to be told 'your next' - which we clearly were not. After our third update request, we were told 'No sorry, we're not taking any more bookings'. Beng busy is their good fortune but they didn't need to mess us about like that.

The service was really slow and when our order was taken they had gotten it wrong. When out meals came one of them was cold and the garlic bread we ordered was barely cooked. The quality of the food was low, clearly some of it was out of the freezer, and it was very pricy, too expensive! Won't be going again.

The menu sounds nice, with well thought through ingredients and a bit different. The execution is somewhat missing however, as some ingredients were either missing or miniscule in quantity adding nothing to the overall dish as a result. Leaves the impression that the chef has no real connection with what is being cooked. Fine if it was JDs with JD prices, but it tries to be a gastro pub, and so there are no excuses really. Service was prompt and efficient though, and great beers.
