“A 5 star B&B”
Reviewed 7 July 2013

This is very much a 5 star B&B. The room was very good with a comfortable bed, ensuite bathroom and sofa bed. There is a TV, coffee and tea making facilities (Taylors tea and Cafe Express filter coffee). We asked for and were provided with Earl Grey tea bags as an alternative to the usual tea. We did have a problem with some of the light bulbs not working but once mentioned these were replaced by the staff. The food was excellent and I can recommend the steak, the risotto and the full breakfast. Service was very good although a little slow on the first morning at breakfast but not on any other occasion. The hotel had free wifi which was available on the second floor at the top of the building. I would recommend this hotel and we will most likely return. It is ideally placed for getting to many places around the snowdonia national park. The only downside I could find is that parking is restricted during the daytime but the local car park (5 mins walk from hotel) is 3.50 for a days parking.

Hello to you both, and many thanks for taking the time to write such a good review. We really enjoyed having you staying, even though some of the light bulbs didn't co-operate! Our restaurant is crucial to us and gives our guests somewhere to have a lovely meal without venturing out far or needing a taxi to get back.
We'd love to see you both again soon, and once again many thanks for the lovely review,
Marc, Nick and the team

Our room, Cadair, was cosy and relaxing. Original beams and stonework start which was ok.d with modern fittings in the bedroom and bathroom. The most comfortable bed ever and the robes (not fluffy) and slippers are a nice touch. Fresh milk is delivered in thermos flasks as required and take away breakfasts left by the room door if the 8am breakfast is too late for you. It is worth sitting down and trying the scrambled eggs and salmon or the bacon, eggs etc from locally sourced ingredients. If I was being fussy I'd prefer some daytime parking near the hotel but Dolgellau is a small town which only has long stay daytime parking in one place, about 10mins walk, only one other hotel has dedicated parking and that is more of a pub.

The restaurant has a varied interesting menu, I had Welsh Dragon pate to start which was ok. The black pudding hash and fluffy egg looked good but filling. For main I had red snapper with a grilled sardine and lime chilli salsa, lovely big piece of snapper and served with more than enough boiled potatoes broccoli and carrots. Everyone else had steaks which looked ok but only came with a small bowl of chunky chips and sauce , no veg. Desserts were fine, chocolate torte is very rich, the cheese board was ok, crumble looked ok as did the ice cream and sorbet. Service was very good, no long waits and friendly not over attentive. Carafes of wine are the best value wine option and the house reds were decent quality.

Enjoyed my stay and a good base for exploring Dolgellau and Coed y Brenin forest park.

I stayed on business at very short notice, I literally walked through the door and asked if I could be accommodated. I was made to feel welcome and was offered a choice of two rooms. The room I stayed in was a suite at the front of the hotel and it was spacious, well furnished and spotlessly clean - everything I needed was there including free wifi. I had a table reserved for me for dinner. The food was superb and service was excellent. The restaurant was full, which is a recommendation in itself, but the service remained prompt, courteous but not overbearing. Breakfast was equally good and check out as smooth and efficient as I have experienced anywhere. Although my visit was an impromptu business stay, I have already commented to the staff that I would love to go back and take my wife for an overnight or weekend stay and I would definitely eat in!

Many thanks Gary for such a great review, very much appreciated. We realise guests on business need things to go smoothly as well as having all the comforts and amenities needed.
Glad you enjoyed the restaurant as well, we look forward to welcoming you either on business or with your wife in the near future.

The attention to detail here is truly the making of this hotel's success - the staff are welcoming, friendly and attentive - nothing was ever too much trouble. The presentation of the hotel immaculate and is perfectly positioned in the centre of Dolgellau.

We stayed in the Arran room which could be a twin room or super king double. The thing to be mindful with this room is that it is on the ground floor and at a bit of a crossroads between the kitchen and the customer toilets. This was not really an issue for us as the room was simply a base, but it is probably not the room to book if you are looking for an early nights sleep or long lay in! That aside, the room was clean & tidy with a super en suite with monsoon shower head. The fixtures and fittings in the room were lovely and a great supply of tea/coffee/water restocked every day with fresh milk! We had a wonderful meal at the hotel (which I have reviewed separately) but the breakfast was also fantastic - a choice of several dishes made to order, I highly recommend the cooked breakfast (tasty but not greasy) and the croissant filled with bacon and cheese was delicious!

I can't recommend this hotel enough, if we had had a bigger budget we would have loved to have stayed in one of the bigger rooms upstairs!

Room Tip: If your budget permits, go for a room upstairs!

Hello Gemma, thank you for your wonderful review and to the both of you for being such lovely guests. We put everything into Y Meirionnydd and we realise the details are what make it a special place.
We are very lucky to have such a lovely restaurant and bar where our guests will always find a table, something rare in Dolgellau! Your room, Arran, is a lovely room but being on the ground floor it can be a bit busy in the evening but of course we try to keep this to a minimum.
We would love to see you both again soon, if you join our mailing list we will keep you abreast of any special deals as well as specific offers through Trip Advisor.

We spent a couple of very nice nights at this lovely little hotel. The staff were friendly and accommodating and the food in the restaurant was very good.
We particularly liked the rooms and felt quite at home, as most of the colours they have used were the same as ours at home, very calming and tranquil but certainly not dull.
The lighting in the bedrooms was well thought out, often you can’t see to read or do your make-up, but here there was plenty of light and mirrors, and they were all just where you needed them. The overall picture is a lovely clean and bright hotel that we would be happy to return to and recommend to others.

My two sons and I had a fantastic stay at Y Merionnydd. On our first evening, we arrived much later than expected, but despite the late hour they were very accommodating and prepared us dinner. We felt extremely welcome the entire two days we stayed. The restaurant service and quality of food were excellent. The entire Y Merionnydd team were friendly and very efficient. We stayed in the Meirion Suite which was very comfortable. We would most definitely recommend Y Merionnydd and look forward to our next visit.

We stayed here for 3 nights from Saturday 25th May.... its a very cozy, beautifully decorated small hotel with extremely friendly staff. We arrived very late on the Saturday night and nothing was too much trouble.. we were found a table in the restaurant and from that day on the food was fantastic.. breakfast also. Our room was lovely.... overlooking the front of the hotel. The main things I look for in a hotel is lovely decor, clean rooms, welcoming people and good food... this has it all.... and more.
