“2-night stay at Y-Meirionnydd”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 August 2013

A small but relatively up-market B&B with a fine restaurant and excellent accommodation. The 'hotel' has only 5 bedrooms , is wonderfully situated in the centre of Dolgellau. The rooms have all the modern facilities, an excellent shower and very comfortable beds.
If there was a negative point, I would say that the outside parking is slightly inconvenient being limited to 1 hr restrictions in the daytime until 6pm (it was slightly inconvenient to have to move the car to a car park out of town at 10am when the car was not needed). The hotel was also situated close to the main road (in normal times this is not an issue as excellent double glazing keeps noise down considerably. However when we were there it was warm and with the windows open traffic noise can be heard. Overall, though an excellent choice to stay and a superb restaurant. Wifi free and reliable too. We stayed in the Meirion.

Within a 2 hour drive from Manchester airport, this beautiful little hotel was a perfect sport for us to explore the Snowdonia region. The staff is extremely helpful and kind, the room we had (Cadair) nice and comfortable.
I would definitely recommend having an evening meal in the hotel's restaurant as well to sample the best produce Wales has to offer. On the days we walked, we took a packed lunch prepared by the hotel that saw us through a day long walks.
This hotel makes a perfect base to explore Snowdonia!

A beautiful room in a lovely hotel. Faultless, friendly service. Wonderful food. Relaxed atmosphere. All in all, the perfect choice for a romantic break in mid-Wales with Cader Idris and the Mawddach Estuary on your doorstep.

We were looking for a quiet cosy weekend and it fulfilled all of our expectations. What a find!!! Staff are very welcoming and attentive, nothing too much trouble, food was superb and fantastic value for money, the bedroom was quant, cosy and clean. Excellent selection of drinks and wine menu.

Breakfast was lovely and a nice selection, the breakfast room was relaxed and inviting.

The truly is a fantastic find and we would highly recommend this. After reading trip advisor we booked this hotel and were not disappointed at all. We will definitely be coming back!!!

Thank you for taking the time to write such a lovely review. We are all really pleased you both enjoyed your stay, and most importantly wish to return. Many of our guests do so again and again, we are very conscious of this and really work hard to ensure their latest trip is as good as their first.
See you both soon and remember we will be offering some very special deals over the Winter months.

This is very much a 5 star B&B. The room was very good with a comfortable bed, ensuite bathroom and sofa bed. There is a TV, coffee and tea making facilities (Taylors tea and Cafe Express filter coffee). We asked for and were provided with Earl Grey tea bags as an alternative to the usual tea. We did have a problem with some of the light bulbs not working but once mentioned these were replaced by the staff. The food was excellent and I can recommend the steak, the risotto and the full breakfast. Service was very good although a little slow on the first morning at breakfast but not on any other occasion. The hotel had free wifi which was available on the second floor at the top of the building. I would recommend this hotel and we will most likely return. It is ideally placed for getting to many places around the snowdonia national park. The only downside I could find is that parking is restricted during the daytime but the local car park (5 mins walk from hotel) is 3.50 for a days parking.

Hello to you both, and many thanks for taking the time to write such a good review. We really enjoyed having you staying, even though some of the light bulbs didn't co-operate! Our restaurant is crucial to us and gives our guests somewhere to have a lovely meal without venturing out far or needing a taxi to get back.
We'd love to see you both again soon, and once again many thanks for the lovely review,
Marc, Nick and the team

Our room, Cadair, was cosy and relaxing. Original beams and stonework start which was ok.d with modern fittings in the bedroom and bathroom. The most comfortable bed ever and the robes (not fluffy) and slippers are a nice touch. Fresh milk is delivered in thermos flasks as required and take away breakfasts left by the room door if the 8am breakfast is too late for you. It is worth sitting down and trying the scrambled eggs and salmon or the bacon, eggs etc from locally sourced ingredients. If I was being fussy I'd prefer some daytime parking near the hotel but Dolgellau is a small town which only has long stay daytime parking in one place, about 10mins walk, only one other hotel has dedicated parking and that is more of a pub.

The restaurant has a varied interesting menu, I had Welsh Dragon pate to start which was ok. The black pudding hash and fluffy egg looked good but filling. For main I had red snapper with a grilled sardine and lime chilli salsa, lovely big piece of snapper and served with more than enough boiled potatoes broccoli and carrots. Everyone else had steaks which looked ok but only came with a small bowl of chunky chips and sauce , no veg. Desserts were fine, chocolate torte is very rich, the cheese board was ok, crumble looked ok as did the ice cream and sorbet. Service was very good, no long waits and friendly not over attentive. Carafes of wine are the best value wine option and the house reds were decent quality.

Enjoyed my stay and a good base for exploring Dolgellau and Coed y Brenin forest park.
