“Comfortable and tasteful”
Reviewed 24 April 2014

Stayed one night here while working in the area and would highly recommend it. It's an old building with a modernised, tasteful interior right in the middle of Dolgellau. The bedroom was spacious and comfortable, with a walk in shower, bathrobes etc.
There was a wide choice of options on the breakfast menu and the service in the hotel and restaurant was very friendly and efficient.
The only minor negative is that the hotel doesn't have its own car park.
But I would definitely stay there again and have already recommended it to friends.

Hello Merched and thank you so much for taking the time to write such a lovely review, we really appreciate the kind words on your return visit. Your room, Mawddach, is a firm favourite of all our guests who stay in it especially as it has that lovely roll top bath. Even though you were working in the area we like to make sure that you are comfortable and will return again on another business trip.

Just stayed the one night whilst visiting the area and had a lovely room with period features and all modern fixtures and fittings too. the room was large and the bed extremely comfortable, tasteful decor throughout and beautiful bathroom with large bath and shower over.

Even though the hotel is situated in the center of town and our room was at the front, it was very quiet and we slept well.

Booked a table in their restaurant so we wouldnt have to drive out to eat and it was in their beautifully appointed cellar restaurant - nice menu and well cooked food with excellent service.
breakfast good with varied options other than the full English/Welsh breakfast.

Would recommend a stay if visiting the area - glad we stayed here rather then Barmouth where I originally looked to book!

Room Tip: paid more for larger room but worth it!

Dear discerning09, thank you for writing such a great review, very kind indeed. We're glad we made your stay such a memorable one even just for one night and that you ate in our restaurant, something we are very proud of indeed. We look forward to welcoming you both again very soon,
Kind regards
Marc, Nick and the team.

We stayed just one night but it was delightful. A comfortable and quite room with vaulted ceiling and exposed beams and smallish but more than adequate ensuite. We had dinner in the basement bistro which has great atmosphere although at 6'3 I had to keep my head down when standing up but the food was great and really well presented. Breakfast was a small buffet and freshly cooked hot food to order, again very nice. The hotel is in the centre of the town but parking is a problem, there is none! After several tours of the town we did manage to park right outside but there are restrictions so be warned. Anyway we'd certainly stay there again when in the area.

My friend and I stayed for a couple of nights whilst exploring the local mountain bike trails. The hotel is in an excellent location for hitting the trail centre at Coed Y Brenin and the hotel is tip-top - beautifully presented and all of the staff are helpful and attentive. Food and wine were excellent. I would highly recommend this hotel.

Stayed 3 nights in the hotel in the Cadair Room, which has views of the Cadir Idris mountains to the rear. The room is very well equipped and is lovely and quiet. Heating is by electric wall heater, which suited us, as we could switch it on and off, as required. The breakfasts were excellent - we tried 3 different options, and all can be highly recommended.

Staff were always friendly, courteous and helpful, but not at all intrusive.

We ate in the restaurant on the Saturday night and had a top notch meal. There is a set price per head for 2 or 3 courses which represents very good value, especially given the quality of the cuisine and locally sourced ingredients. The black welsh fillet steaks we ordered rare, were cooked to perfection and melted like butter in the mouth. There is a good wine list, with an interesting selection of reds.

We would thoroughly recommend this hotel for a stay and/or a meal in the restaurant, which is open to non-residents.

I was really amazed by the first class standard of this hotel I can't think of anything which would have enhanced my stay - oh, perhaps a table/shelf by the side of the bed I chose [because it was nearer the bathroom!]

You have thought of literally everything else. The breakfast was excellent - I had a warm croissant filled to bursting with mushrooms and melted cheese - delicious and great to have variation of choice from the usual offerings.

Thanks to you and very good wishes

Room Tip: On my own I chose the "small room", but it would also be fine for two on a short visit.
