Shell Island is all about the location on the site you choose depending on the weather forecast. Never ever arrive on a Friday or Saturday during the school holidays as you won't be able to choose the right space. If its windy head for the dunes and trees area if its calm and sunny pitch down towards the harbour. But the best thing is the southern beach....if you want to chill out walk down it on a sunny day just paddling in the sea - heaven!

Room Tip: Head for the dunes then turn left and camp under the trees, its the best pitch on the site!

Stunning views , lovely friendly staff , well maintained site, slightly annoying that they charge anyone over 15 adult prices as an adult is when u hit 18 !!! Shop could do with being better organised ie deliveries being unpacked an stocked after hrs instead of whilst open makes for it being title hectic , when weathers good it's the best place ever stunning sea views beautiful sunsets however when it rains it rains so be prepared take extra clothing gift shops nice enough however camping equipment is expensive to buy here so don't forget ur own tin openers , tent pegs etc

Just back from yet another successful jaunt to 'Shell'. It's about the 5th time I've been over the last 5-7 years and the place hasn't changed a bit. The addition of wifi around the main building is appreciated as I had no signal other than that.
I generally think the place is a little dirty and hasn't been updated in years and it could really benefit from it. For example the toilet cabins are of poor quality and shower ques ridiculous. Having said this, if the people that visit would keep the place tidier then they wouldn't have to. I think camping really sorts the scutters from the families! People should clear up their mess and not leave it lying about!!!

If the weather isn't perfect be prepared for strong winds as you camp literally next to the sea and it can be very windy!

Finally, if you want a quieter time perhaps trying going to the right once on the site down towards the dock as everyone seems to choose the sand dunes area to camp!

Try it, it's fun!!!!

Leave Shell Island to the people who love good old fashioned camping.
I have been to this place only once before this week with my fiancée and this time we went with our 11 month old son and my 6 and 7 year old children from previous. Can't fault the place in the whole.
Don't get me wrong there is the odd few people who you would love to throw face first in the rock pools. Those are the odd few people who leave the beer bottles, tins and barbecues around for poor bare footed children to hurt themselves on. Maybe in the future they will come up with a solution to prevent this without losing the superb sort of freedom they allow at the moment.
Still 5 star for me just for the all round freedom, fair bar prices and the spectacular views.
You will never go to a campsite with such a diverse range of people from different backgrounds.
Excellent!!
