Booked this hotel online for a sunday night, the hotel do all rooms for £34.00 sundays only good deal. Hotel is a good base to see the area nice cosy town. A few friendly pubs nice resturants and a quaint small cinema/theatre. If you like wetherspoons catering the breakfasts are ok.For the money it makes a good short break.

Room Tip: room at back needed for a peacefull night

Stayed there last Saturday night. Had paid a 50% deposit and offered to pay the balance on arrival (silly me..). They have put their prices up since i booked so i was charged £5 too much. This was pointed out by a friend and later refunded, but should not have happened. ...

Anyway, the room was second floor and at the front. Decor clean, but tired - needs a refurb. In spite of this TV reception was poor and limited to a few chanels that dropped out from time to time. Shower was far too powerful and DANGEROUSLY hot, and necessitated me jumping out of the bath to avoid serious burns.

Went off to attend the evening event I was there for, only to arrive back at the hotel at 1am to find a gang of young people who had left the pub on the ground floor all sitting around on the steps directly under our window. Went up to my room to find my wife very agitated and explaining that the shouting and jeering had been going on since 10pm. The windows are old sash type single glazed ones and they dont shut properly, so when i got into bed it sounded like the noisemakers were right next to thebed. Finally went quiet enough for us to get to sleep at about 2.15am...

If you ever wondered what became of Concorde's engines when the planes were decomissioned, it would appear that at least one of them was purchased by Monmouth Council, fitted with wheels at each corner, and used as a street cleaner. I know this because it arrived outside said unsealable window at about 5.30am and continued to pass back and forth across the T junction outside the hotel until about 6am. The noise was deafening.

Not long after Concorde left, three van loads of builders arrived and decided to gather under the lamppost across the road from my room. They were a very happy bunch, and i'm sure they had a lot to laugh and joke about, since the Lions had won the match down under just the day before, but doing it outside my window as loudly as they did from 6.45 to around 7am was a bit much.

Just as well they moved away from the lamp post when they did, because that was when the guy on the Harley Davidson (complete with growling exhaust pipes) arrived, and decided to park there. He only stayed about 15 mins though, so that was nice.

By now it was 7.15, and the delivery lorries had started to arrive, so we got up, packed and left. A very nice young guy asked if we had had a nice stay, but i resisted the temptation to unload on him, thinking it would be better to do it online to the Customer Service team, so i simply told him that if i ever wanted to limit myself to 3 hours sleep again i would be sure to call him.

Yesterday was Monday. I was back in front of my computer and filed a complaint with J D Wetherspoons onlie service. It is now almost 3pm Tuesday. I HAVE HEARD NOTHING!!. Tha is why I am posting this review.

All of this did NOT spoil a trip to a beautiful town that i will certainly go back to many times again in the future. I loved it. But if you are planning a visit do not under any circumstances, book a front facing room at this hotel.

Room Tip: Do not book a front facing room

For two consecutive weeks now we have gone to this pub walked to an clear bar to get served and the bar staff has walked from behind the bar and started to clear a table rather than serve. Leaving us stood waiting until she decided she would honour us with her presence and resume serving.

Spotless and spacious is the best description of the room we stayed in, at the top of the hotel so very little noise, generous towels, as this was part of an all inclusive lands end to John O'Groats bike tour I do not know what the room cost but I think the cost would be in the budget range and at that I would say it is good value. BUT the break fast was a disappointment , how can they offer eggs scrambled, fried but not be able to Boil an egg ! The coffee was weak, the scrambled egg dry. So pleased we decided to eat dinner elsewhere (The "Who would have thought it" was great) The kings head is great place to stay in Monmouth but have your breakfast elsewhere

Stayed for three nights in June whilst walking offas dyke path, money saved on accommodation partially used to pay for taxis to and from walk.floorboards do creek a bit but to be expected from the age of the building. Usual great drinking and eating opportunities you expect from the weatherspoon pub next door.

We went for a weekend last november. It was cold and windy, but we had a goo time. Went back as a group for an anniversary and birthday. Hotel is very clean, well situated for the town shops, pubs and scenery. Great parking too. We found an amazing turkish restaurant for breakfast just past some spectacular coffee shops. Well worth a trip if you want a cheap but comfortable overnight or long weekender. All the pubs are good for food, entertainment and relaxing, also some lively pubs in the vacinity if you want.
