As with most of the Wetherspoon hotels the rooms are a good size and clean. You can always get food service up untill 10pm Parking can be a problem there is a public pay and display very close where you can pay the night before for the next morning so you can have a breakfast in the pub without rushing out. Breakfast is not included in the room rate but is available at a reasonable price in the pub

Room Tip: some of the rooms on the front can be a bit noisy at the weekend

we booked this for a treat and it was just that! a really quaint old coaching house lovingly restored by wetherspoons.we had a large double room with traditional furniture . we had a sunday lunch on arrival before setting out on a sightseeing tour[pub crawl] and returned for last orders at midnight when we were told that we could buy more beer and take it to our room.next day we had a giant full english breakfast to soak up the beer. all i all a great little stay in a lovely market town

Room Tip: book late for best rate

A typically good value Wetherspoons set right in the heart of Monmouth. The room, when we eventually found it along a maze of stairs and corridors, was a good size and very clean. The only real negative is the parking or lack of it. We arrived on a busy Saturday lunchtime but ended up having to park in the main car park at the bottom end of the main street, a good 10 minute walk from the hotel. Parking aside we enjoyed our stay and would visit this hotel again.

This was the first time we had stayed in a Wetherspoon Hotel. It costs £34 for the room on a Sunday night. It had toiletries, 2 bottles of mineral water 1 of each of still and sparkling, and 2 nice packets of biscuits. The room was a little small but had the usual furniture including desk and easy chair. Bath/shower was hot and fast and the bathroom even had a heated towel rail. There was a choice of foam and feather pillows enough for 2 each. Meals were taken in the Wetherspoons pub and were good value as usual. There was no noise from the pub itself and the room was quiet. Well recommend trying another Wetherspoon Hotel in a different location.

It does what it says on the tin. Clean, well presented but quite spartan, right in the middle of town. I didn't have any issues with noise from the bar downstairs - Monmouth isn't exactly Soho - and the breakfast (separate) was not bad.

My expectations of somewhere that lets double rooms for under fifty quid are always low, in this case they were massively exceeded. Our room was a generous size, very clean and decently furnished, in particular the beds were comfortable so we got a good night's sleep. Checking in and out was pretty efficient and the reception staff were helpful. My one gripe would be that our room was in the rafters, we have a baby as do our friends who were in the room across the hall and we mentioned this when we booked, carrying vast amounts of infant paraphernalia up dozens of narrow stairs on a succession of windy staircases was a bit of a mission. On the other hand, our rooms were out of the way, they may have been doing their other guests a favour by keeping potentially screaming kids as far from them as possible. In any case at the price we were charged unless something is actively bad you can't have any complaints. When it's good, as the King's Head was, you've had a bonus. The value for money was also on show at breakfast which was well cooked, very generous and cost little over a fiver. Bargain from start to finish.

If you are looking for a nights rest while walking the trail you can do far worse than the Kings Head. It is on the route, and in the heart of Monmouth, it is clean and well equipped offering a range of evening and breakfast options at good value. My only criticism is that the single room I had was not great for anyone over 6 feet tall. Book through the franchise site and you will probably get a better room rate.
