We stayed at the Upper Red House in early August on our travels to the UK from Australia, and what a brilliant and relaxing time we had, even though it was for only one night (we would have preferred a couple more if time allowed). Teona is a warm and wonderful host, giving us a great welcome, loads of space and an absolutely delicious organic breakfast that was just what we needed after the hustle and bustle of London in August. In the morning we had a great chat with Teona, with her sharing her passion of the local environment and community and passing on interesting and invaluable information on the local area and beyond. The beautiful house and amazing, quiet country setting was definitely a highlight of our trip. Exceptionally comfy bed in the cosy attic room with the exposed oak beams from the mid 1600's was a delight. It's a real credit to Teona to renovate such a special place and bring it to life the way she has with eco principles in mind, and we're lucky to have experienced such hospitality. You have inspired us with our own renovations back home and prove that you can live a great life while treading lightly. Hot water was available, and the boiler is being fixed. Thank you so much- we will definitely be staying on any future trips to the UK!

My husband and I had booked the Upper Red House as a treat, but it was far from it. However, when we arrived, our host kindly took us into the farmhouse kitchen and made us tea which was very hospitable. But, rather than being cosy, the rooms were freezing cold and not furnished in shabby chic, but just plain shabby. When my husband asked if the heating would come on at night (I was at that point under the duvet cold - it was 4pm), to which our host stated the boiler had broken down - TWO weeks ago! Our host then handed him a small fan heater and suggested we "huddle around it". Needless to say, we left. Would definitely not recommend.

Our hi-tech new biomass boiler is in and heat and hot water flow! However, this guest came in the third week of May, so even with a working boiler, the heating would not have been on. I heat the house only when the weather is cold, which it wasn't. I gathered from the reviewer's husband that she sadly has a condition which makes her feel the cold more than most people. If only she had warned me first!
I'm sorry she was disappointed, especially as all but one of my other guests have loved the place - and said so in the visitors' book - which you can see if you ever decide to visit.
