We have just returned from a weeks camping at this campsite , Llyn Gwynant. Ok, so there is no electric hook up, not many showers, and no food onsite. But hey , I think the beautiful setting, relaxed atmosphere of the campsite, Lake to Kyak on and stream for the children to play in off sets that. I would recommend this campsite to families with children, we travelled with another family. Four adults and six children ranging from ten to fourteen, all had a fab time and loved every minute of their holiday. It is a perfect base for walking Snowdon. Staff friendly, and willing to offer advice and help. Loved the quiet charm of this campsite, with opportunity to enjoy open fires, and toast marshmellows. Such a beautiful setting would be hard not to love it. Only downside was rather plaged by midges in evening. Rated by Smiths 2011

We stayed for two nights in August 2010.
The position of the campsite was perfect...lake, river, mountains, but the campsite was a real letdown.
The site site was just too busy and it spoilt the atmospheric and tranquil location of the place and its a real shame. I understand that their policy is not to turn anyone away so that is why it was busy I suppose.
I wont be returning.

We camped here for 2 nights in August. Its a beautiful location (weather permitting!).
The staff were very friendly and helpful and the campsite was pretty busy the only thing that lets it down is the toilet and shower block.

The closest pub was quite a way back up the hill so we made the most of being able to have a campfire instead which was brilliant.

Campsite staff are welcoming and helpful. Location is stunning in a beautiful valley floor right next to Lake Gwynant, only a 10 minute bus ride from the start of the Miners/Pyg track up Snowdon. Toilets and showers were good and clean. Fire pits are available to use and the wood was very reasonably priced. Great value for money. Can't wait to go back!

i was a bit worried about camping in such a remote basic mountain area we live in nottingham and are used to heading to the east coast for the weekend and staying in our cosy touring caravan this time we wanted to be different so we dug the tent out and headed for the hills,it was dark when we arrived lesson no 1 learnt always arrive in daylight to pitch up a tent on a site with no electricity, the journey had taken longer than we had planned, on arrival we were met at the gate by very friendly warden sounded australian we paid and he told us to choose where we wanted to pitch,ha ha very difficult to choose when it's pitch black ,we drove around and came back to where we started from so we pitched up there very muddy as they'd had lot of rain wind was very strong i had to hang on to the tent while my partner hammered away, it was soon up and i'd been back to main entrance with my £4 to purchase bag of logs which you put in a metal pit for your campfire there was no moon just camp fires twinkling stars and someone strumming a guitar and singing we just loved it. next morning camp site surrounded by mist like waking up on another planet it soon cleared and we could see where we were time to explore, the lake was beautifull and shimmery there is also a river running through you can hire a canoe and in warm weather swim in lake and play about in the river.lots of mud, showers are free in busy times i'm sure there must be queus, you need flip flops or similar for the showers as in wet weather the floors are very muddy as everybody's shoes , boots are muddy cant be helped.this is a site if you want to get away from it all and love the outdoor life whatever the weather, the weather can change very quickly as you are in a valley go prepared for wet weather and if the weather turns out nice well it's a bonus take all your waterproof gear and try and pitch in a sheltered area leave your brolly at home unless you want to do a mary poppins ,when you stay in a mountain area you should expect to have rain i think this area has about 2 metres rain a year .take all the supplies you need there is no shop we forgot our milk and flora,my partner was gone over half an hour to a shop at capel cerig, so yo really need to take as much as you can.Beddgelert is about 5 miles away. Betws y Coed about 15 we spent time sat eve at the Stables Betws y Coed with my family from anglesey it was very busy we could only get table outside which was fine. There is a bus that stops at the entrance i think this bus goes up to Pen y Pass where the PYG Track starts up the mountain there is a cafe there and pay and display car park so busy though you are not guaranteed a space,. it can be a 3 hour walk up to snowdon depends how good a walker you are. There are some walks from the site wardens will advise you, no mobile connection in this area, public telephone on site you are in the heart of the mountains here it is so amazing we are returning in August with tent again new one next time no we really dont fancy towing the caravan on the road down to the site but i'm sure someone will !!!!!!!

Almost didn't want to write this in case it spoils this special place.

This place was our first ever camping trip (we have been back since), Its not easy to find but you won't be disipointed.

The campsite does not allow large groups onto site or loud music after 11pm which suited us and created a nice family feel to the site. Facilities are very basic shower block, water taps and thats it....but if its real camping you want thats all you need.

Site is split into two areas one that allow cars and an area that doesn't, at the recommendation of the staff we pitched on the no cars field as it was better for the kids, Ok we had to lug our stuff from the parking area but we got a great pitch along side the river.

Fires are allowed on site via a number of fire pit scattered around, wood can be purchased on site up to 7pm. The fires in the evening really adds to the camping experience, if you can bring along some fire lanterns people were letting them off into the darkness they looked great.

But it that first morning that you appreciate your surroundings, as the morning mist clears you will see that you have camped in one of the most beautiful areas in the UK, hard to discribe really.
