Llyn Gwynant Campsite

My wife and I recently camped at Llyn Gwynant Campsite for a friends wedding in the upper barn, we camped on the fields next to it which were reserved for the wedding party.

The campsite is located at the top of the lake and is in an amazing setting. The road down to the campsite can be quite tight so take care when driving to the site, once onsite the staff are very helpful and you'll have no problems!

The barn (for functions and weddings) are really pretty and being improved. New toilets had been built, showers will be added soon. There is a large kitchen and bunk area for kids too. The fields for those camping are right next to the barn and we, along with friends, camped on the field below the barn next to the lake. While this field is away from the main site, it's only a minutes walk to the facilities.

There is a large toilet/shower block which is free to use. Also onsite, most nights during the summer, is a wood fired ovan cooking very tasty Pizza's.

The campsite is a great place for a wedding, it is also a great place to come camping anyway whether you are taking on Snowdon or not!

Stayed here for 5 nights with my partner from the 21st August.
Good to get there as early to midday as you can, as you have more choice of where to pitch and as it was near the bank holiday weekend we knew it would get busy.
We pitched by the lake front behind some trees which was perfect as they acted as a shield from the wind! The views from the site are amazing!!
The facilities here are just what you expect when camping, the toilets and showers are cleaned regularly and there are 3 freezers for you to put your ice packs in, which are a great help!
There is also an on site pizza stall that were there every night we stayed (minus one bad weather night). They range from £4 for garlic bread and then up to £8 for 10" pizzas. Ideal if you don't fancy cooking.
The camp is also only a short drive away from Beddgelert where there are pubs, fish & chips, groceries and a camping shop if you need any last minute things.
The boat hire on camp is also great fun when the weather is good, we went out on a Canadian canoe which only cost £15 for the hour, which in our opinion was enough time to go round the lake. There are also a few walks you can do from the campsite, if you go over the bridge across the stream.
There is no phone reception here, but there is a pay phone available.
Overall this is a great site and will definitely be going there again!

Room Tip: - Pitch by some trees, helps with the wind! - No phone reception but there is a pay phone.

We arrived at the campsite late at night, however the staff was friendly and helpful. when we woke up we seen lovely views of the mountains. We had a lovely time in snowdonia. We climb snowdonia mountain. The campsite is fairly priced. I would recommend this campsite.

Stayed here for four nights. The lakeside views right under the mountain are spectacular. Nice location between Snowdon and Beddgelert. Cheap 10'' pizza is made fresh every night for £5-8 if you don't fancy cooking. Fire pits are provided and wood sold for £4 a bag. The facilities are fair, not outstanding, but well stocked and cleaned regularly, might queue in busy periods. Swim in the lake or hire a boat cheap on site. Staff friendly and helpful, regularly checking passes too. Would come again and recommend others visit too.

This campsite reminds me of childhood family camping holidays, if you want kids entertainment, on site bar, cafe, heated pool and a fully stocked shop then maybe this is not the site for you. However if you want peace, quite, no phone signal (though I had 3G on Snowdons summit) wild swimming, paths to the summit from the site and a almost back to nature camping experience with camp fires (bit of a smog on a rare still night) then this is the site for you. Very friendly staff, basic but clean showers and toilets, lots of info on site, great pizzas, noisy Otter spotting and free to camp where ever as no pitches and most camping areas are car free. We arrived after a weekend to a very quite site however our camping neighbours did say the weekends can get very busy so get there early.

We arrived Friday night at 11pm. Was greeted at the gate by a member of staff even tho it was so late. Paid for two nights and was told all the information on the campsite. Parking was quite hard. In the dark with know lights other than my headlights. We finally found somewhere to park and accidently set up tent in the groups section. We didn't mind so stayed where we was. The separate the groups from others to reduce noise but the groups were quite to other camp sites I've been to. No music allowed so we used our headphones. You can buy firewood and have a open fire. The serve fresh made pizza. We brought 3 pizzas and garlic bread and it came to £25 they only take cash. The main toilets are ok. Only 6 showers witch can be long and the showers are walk in so you need to hand clothes up but thy still get wet. The staff are so helpful. Gave us directions and tips for the mountin climb. We got the bus to the miners track. Website says the bus is a £1 but it's £1.60 pp each way. The bus last time back was at 3 so if you need the bus you have to climb early. We got a cab back and costed £25 as we went down a diff path. The turning in to the camp site is tight if turning left. We watch many cars nearly crash trying to get round as it's a blind corner for other cars.

From the main road this looks like a slice of heaven until you drop down into the site then Hell in Wales begins. I've roughed it in many places but the bad vibe on this site was almost tangible. When they say plenty of space take that as a joke. We struggled to find a area big enough to take a small two man tent that was anywhere near a safe distance from other tents with burnt earth showing that fire safety wasn't high on the list. Large same sex parties with a fair few unloading the obligatory bmw or audi with the nights booze cruise supplies. We was told that the previous night had a problem with noise and they was going to enforce the 11.30pm curfew that night. We left after a hour as the thought of staying on a cross between big brother and benefit street didn't float my boat and as mentioned earlier the whole place just gave off a look at me wrong and I'll stab you vibe.
