“Peace and quiet....”
Reviewed 13 July 2016 for a stay in July 2016

Bunkhouse location was ideal for us, off the beaten track, surrounded by trees and very quiet. The ideal antedote to a hectic life. The barn itself has a simplicity typical of bunk barn arrangements. The essentials are all there, notably a very large range cooker (plenty of large pots and pans etc), a wood burner and central heating for the colder months. It would also be an ideal base for winter walking as the heating was certainly efficient. Beds and bedding were all very comfortable and clean, and the shower room was modern. The only slight drawback (due to the compact nature of the barn) was a queue for WC as its in the same room as the shower.

The immediate surroundings were very wooded and this added to the feelings of tranquility, there are some buildings within the boundary that are to be refurbished, (some previous reviewers criticised this) but it doesnt detract from what is a lovely setting. The owner, who is very easy to deal with, is setting about bringing these buildings back in to use.

Wider afield, there is good beer to be found at the cellar bar of the hotel in Penmaenpool, from the local Purple Moose brewery. Walking, something for most people, a flat walk along the disused railway line, or more strenuous stuff up Cadhir Idris nearby. Brilliant Mountain biking also available close by. Shame we were only here for 2 nights.....

“Quiet, secluded location surrounded by wonderful walks which catered for the needs of a large group perfectly.”
Reviewed 24 August 2015 for a stay in August 2015

10 of us had booked this place for a weekend. It was fairly easy to find as the sat nav took us near the location and a bit of searching led to a clearly sign posted turning.

There was plenty of parking space and the house was well stocked and clean. Adrian whom we had conversed with via email visited us in the evening and was a great host. As the area was so secluded it was brilliant to have a lot of laughs and not have to worry about being too noisy and disturbing any neighbours!

The location was brilliant and only a moments drive away from Aberdovey and Barmouth which was brilliant for us as well as being extremely close to Cadair Idris.

For large groups of people this place is brilliant, especially if you are looking to go for walks/cycling around the area. As students we found the prices very affordable and the house catered to our needs very well!

Liked best: Not having to worry about neighbours when blasting music at 4am and drinking wine.
Liked least: Due to it's location it was difficult to direct other people to the area due to the lack of signal - this is obviously a factor not under the host's control but it was the only bad thing.

“Genuinely great place to stay - everything you'd expect from a bunkhouse”
Reviewed 19 June 2015 for a stay in June 2013

I've seen a lot of reviews complaining about the site around the bunkhouse itself - this does appear odd as you approach it but remember you are on a working farm - this isn't a Centre Parcs! As a result, theres flexibility to bring your car close the the house, bring bikes, a barbeque etc.
The bunkhouse itself however is exactly what you need for a group of travellers. Clean kitchen, clean warm bedding, modern bathroom. 9 of us stayed in this bunkhouse as a base for climbing Snowdon and not one of my friends from all walks of life complained. We were able to cook a full roast lunch for our group so that shows how well equipped the kitchen is.
Planning to stay here again soon with colleagues

Obviously, this isn't a 5* hotel. But it's clean, warm and rural - surely that's what everyone who's looking for this price point in North Wales is looking for??

“Fantastic”
Reviewed 27 May 2015 for a stay in May 2015

When I read the reviews on Cefn Coed I wasn't sure what to make of the negative ones, some of which really played down the accommodation and grounds.

However, after spending three days there over a bank holiday weekend with eight other people for a stag party, I can happily say that this was one of the best places I've ever stayed in in Wales, purely because of the type of holiday we were hoping to achieve.

It's simple and to the point! The kitchen has everything you need if you want to cook at home, the shower and bathroom (There was one bathroom and shower, but this caused no issues for the nine of us) was very good and modern, the grounds were large and perfect for a evening BBQ's, fire pits, music and a moderately loud group of young men (There were no people to disturb within what felt like 30 miles). It wasn't too far out, so travelling via car to any destination near by was easy.

If you're looking for a five star hotel and to be pampered then you're looking in the wrong place, but if you're looking for a weekend away without the hustle and bustle of the outside world and complete independence , then Cefn Coed is perfect for you.

I'd hope to stay again in the future if I'm ever in the area.

“Great location, perfect for what we needed.”
Reviewed 15 April 2015 for a stay in April 2015

We stayed as a group of 11 people for a reunion of old friends. The location was great, with fantastic walks in the Welsh countryside on the doorstep. The bunkhouse was clean, fully equipped and perfect for what we needed. The bedrooms were very small, but the dining table was big enough to sit us all round and there were 2 large sofas next to the fire. It's true what other reviews say that there are some abandoned chalets around, but the site was fine and there was space to sit outside and have campfires. We had a great trip and would go back again.
