“Very Clean, Safe, Comfortable, Friendly and Enjoyable!”
Reviewed 17 June 2014

We arrived at Barcdy on the 1st of June (for 4 nights) just as the site was going into off peak time. You would never tell that the week before was peak - the grass was immaculate, as was the rest of the site.

We were greeted by a lovely lady (the owner?) who was very helpful, letting us know all the options for electric tent pitches and advising which might best meet our needs. We decided on the main field to the front of the site because of the views and easy access to the toilets, showers, wash house and freezers.

We pitched easily with good reach to the electric hook-up and had more than enough room in the pitch for our tent, tarp and car! I really appreciated that the pitches were clearly marked, (although it wasn't particularly needed this time as there were only three other tents in the field) as the boundaries were very clear.

There was ample facilities available, including the use of freezers and 10p ice pack loan. The facilities were immaculate - I am sure the toilets must have been cleaned after each user, they were that clean! You are able to BBQ (there are bricks to prevent scorching the grass) and there are recycling facilities. There were also plenty of picnic benches that campers were able to use which saves on bringing along extra equipment such as a camping table.

They warn about traffic noise from the road outside but it is very minimal, especially as there is works going on, so it comes in batches rather than constantly. We found that the birds masked a lot of it too, as they sat in the hedge tweeting to each other as dawn came.

The other campers were all lovely too and we seemed to create a bit of a community, which made for a safe and happy holiday. We were always able to find a member of staff to ask questions to, as well, which was helpful when we needed to gain access to the freezers.

Overall, we found Barcdy to be the perfect place to stay with easy access Harlech, the beach and many other attractions including the Slate Caves which were perfect for a wet day. The views from the field are lovely too and at the right time of year, there are stunning sun sets to watch as you relax from the comfort of your tent.

Stayed here for three nights in late May 2014.

The site is very well maintained with very clean and well equipped toilet/shower blocks and washing up facilities. We pitched on 'the knoll' above the valley and had three comfortable nights. The location is lovely and the campsite is spacious, well laid out and a very attractive enviornment.

The site's websites includes some local walks and myself, partner and three sons (7, 10 and 12) walked to the top of Y Gyrn following the recommended walk - which rewards you with lovely views into Snowdonia. I would also recommend a drive to Harlech where you can enjoy the Castle and the beach in one trip!

A very highly recommended site, we will be returning next year!

I stayed here with my boyfriend and was very impressed with the site. The campsite was very well maintained and in beautiful surroundings. The toilet and shower facilities were clean and there were plug sockets available for hardryers. The only downfall seemed to be the lack of shops within a 50 mile radius (especially supermarkets). I would advise that you take all the supplies you need with you.

Room Tip: We were told on arrival that the top site would be quieter (less children).

Thank you very much for taking the trouble to write this very nice review.

We are very aware of the long distance to shops and supermarkets - the nearest being at Porthmadog. This year we are suffering inconvenience because our old bridge across the estuary has been closed and we are awaiting the building of a new one. This has increased the distance from here to Porthmadog from 5 miles to around 12 miles. But there are a couple of smaller food shops at Harlech - 4miles away - that we will recommend to our visitors this season. Next year we will have a lovely new bridge that will make the journey to Porthmadog easier than ever!

A fantastic campsite. Two areas for pitching tents, up top or down below. We chose the bottom field near the Oak tree swing. Electric hook ups are available for campers who need to bring their kitchen and lounge with them. If like us you don't then you are free to pitch anywhere. Adequate number of showers and toilets, good washing up area, and a laundry room. Ideally located for Harlech, Portmadog and southern Snowdonia. Wonderful beaches on the doorstep. Lots of walks (printable maps on the Barcdy website) from the woods above the site. Very friendly owners. No dirty dogs. Peaceful at night, excitable owls are the beautiful exception. Book it Danno.

Just returned from 5 nights at Barcdy campsite. £120 for a family of four and a tent! Thoroughly enjoyed our time there. Despite it being during the school summer holidays there was lots of room. We were able to choose where to pitch our tent and opted for the tent area at the top of the site... this was more picturesque than the lower site... Picnic tables were provided and we had lots of space around us. Hot water was plentiful, although we did have to queue for one of the four showers provided for the caravans at the top of the site and the tents. There's a freezer for your cool blocks at reception for which the site owners ask for a small donation to charity. It was a lovely safe environment for the childrne to play. There is no shop on site but there's a small village with a shop that opens late just a few miles away. We found it a great location from which to explore Snowdonia.

Room Tip: With a tent I'd choose the top site for pitching as it is prettier and further from the road.

We have stayed at this site a number of times over the last 9 years and each time it has been fab. The facilities are ALWAYS clean and well maintained and the ground very well cared for. The views are excellent in the valley area and guests considerate of the quiet atmosphere wanted by the Owners. Thank you

Brilliant site, quiet, don't allow dogs, flat, spacious, beautiful setting, great showers and toilets, absolutely love it. Only 10 mins from Porthmadog. Nicely spaced out benches to sit at, clean, very tidy, fridge and freezer to put your cold bits and bobs, would heartily recommend!

Room Tip: If you have a tent and don't have kids, choose the lower field - it's by the road, but there...
