“Little gem of a place”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 May 2014

What a wonderful place to stay. We have only been home for 3 hours but felt we had to do this review. We are seasoned travellers who have done some of the best 5* hotels in the far east and New Zealand and the USA but this tops them all for the food and the service from the hosts is second to none, nothing was to much trouble. The evening meals in the restaurant were sublime and cooked to perfection.
We had room No 9 and its was immaculate, very clean and the décor was very tasteful.
We did a lots of travelling around north Wales and this was the ideal place to come back to at the end of the day.
Keep up the good work and see you soon we hope.

Room Tip: All rooms I imagine would be very good

We spent two nights on a bed and breakfast basis - we had lovely sunny weather so the seats at the front of our rooms outside we're a nice touch. The hotel also has nice gardens which you can sit in. Breakfast was good and the staff are very pleasant, making us feel more than welcome. This is a family run hotel and very well organised. We had an evening meal in the bistro and it was all home made and delicious.

The hotel is located in beautiful spot with nice walks and views. It is in a good spot for visiting Harlech castle, Conway castle, criccieth, abersoch, porthmeirion with a car. Also near the railway stations. Would definitely recommend a stay here.

Room Tip: All rooms are ground floor and it does look a bit like a motel when you drive up, but far nicer and...

Time was when finding quality accommodation in rural Wales, and good food, was a daunting prospect... but that was some time ago!

Four nights at the Estuary Lodge at Talsarnau is an ideal example of how far quality has come on in Wales.

Motel style is not what you might expect in Wales, but a three metre walk with your luggage from your car to your room, and no stairs to negotiate, has its advantages.

The rooms are very well appointed and spotlessly clean, new and well-maintained and sound-proofed. The bed was exceptionally large and comfortable, as were the internal chairs and the wooden ones outside the room, where we read for a while at sunset.

Talsarnau proved to be an excellent location for exploring northwards to Snowdonia, the Lakes, the narrow gauge railways and Portmeirion and southwards to Barmouth and beyond. However, there is currently still reconstruction work continuing on the estuary bridge which entails a five mile detour along the delightful estuary road for points north to Portmadoc and beyond.

Our intention was to eat out every evening but the warm welcome and delicious and well-planned menu meant that at the end of a long day's exploring, we could sample the delights of locally grown beef and lamb as well as sampling the hotel's own chicken eggs fresh every morning. There were traditional as well as more adventurous items on every menu, all beautifully prepared and presented.

The staff are exceptional in their friendliness, attention to detail and local knowledge. The small team are clearly motivated by a passion for quality and creating a relaxing and enjoyable atmosphere.

I'm wondering whether I should post this now ... I'm going to be livid if they are booked up next time we want to stay!

Room Tip: All rooms have car parking and seats outside. The room was quiet and well appointed.

My husband and I stayed here last September, the hotel is motel style where you park your car in front of your room, and you have a microwave, cutlery, crockery and cafetiere as well as a kettle. However most motels are basic, this is more plush with beautiful rooms, everything matches and the decor is very tasteful. The restaurant is also excellent, the evening meal that we had there on the first night was fabulous and so were the breakfasts. On a Sunday they only do lunches in the restaurant, we didn't require this as we were out walking, but their take-away pizzas were very good!!
I would whole heartedly recommend Estuary Lodge, it is a family run hotel and they are extremely friendly and helpful!! We will be visiting again!!

Room Tip: I think all the rooms are of a similar standard, we had a standard double room.

We come here for dinner on a regular basis - atleast once a month!
Each time we have been it has been excellent- food is fantastic, atmosphere is brilliant and the staff faultless extremely helpful.
It is so nice to see home made food from starter to dessert and homemade produce for sale in the recepion area.
See you soon, thanks again.

Fabulous welcome and quick check-in. Room had everything we could need for our nights stay. The bath robes being very welcome - just wish more places provided these!. We ate in the bistro - lovely food and excellent service - the lamb steak to die for! Breakfast the following morning was just as welcoming and I loved the fact I could customise my full english :). Shame hubby had to work the next day else we would have asked to stay a second night!

Room Tip: Room 1 is right next to reception & restaurant - very handy if you can't walk far.

Initially we were a bit disappointed when we pulled into the car park to find a modern motel appearance to the low rise building. Not the picturesque Welsh cottage we had imagined. But we were soon won over by this very friendly family run business. The rooms are really comfortable with everything you could want, spacious comfortable bed, two handbasins, microwave, fridge with milk ready and waiting for tea/coffee making. We had already had a long drive so decided to book in for dinner. This was an unexpected pleasure too. Brothers Dan and Dominic have a real feel for food and wine. Breakfast too was exceptional. Friendly family business with emphasis on excellence in all the right places. Really recommend a visit.
