“History alive”
Reviewed 23 April 2014 via mobile

Visited with two 12 year old boys and one 8 year old.

Bit tricky to find but just ask any of the shop owners. Guide done by phone system and worked perfectly. Really interesting place, quite creepy! Good value day out.

(Little bakery just around the corner- yum yum definitely go there!)

“Great Day Out”
Reviewed 19 April 2014

Good value for money if purchasing a ticket for both the Gaol and the Courthouse. Brilliant audio tour directed you through the Gaol identifying all the different areas. Suitable for both adults and children although children were especially catered for on this visit through an Easter Egg Hunt which kept them amused throughout the visit.

“Gaol and courthouse; get tickets for both”
Reviewed 16 April 2014

The gaol and courthouse are adjacent and I'd recommend getting tickets for both to get a real feel for the judicial system. The court is a tiny microcosm of the legal process and one of very few open to public view.

The gaol is chilling. Artefacts are available to view, the sense of deprivation, desolation and stark horror in some parts is almost palpable. Picking rope, working the treadmill, mothers rocking their babes in the room above...the gallows site and tales of haunting and miscarriage of justice.

It's well worth a visit, some interesting local history books in the shop. I live locally and I've visited a number of times. It's a compelling place.

“Scary yet fascinating”

Well worth a visit. Audio guide so you can go at your own pace. Easy to imagine how awful it must have been to be imprisoned there.

“Crime and Punishment”
Reviewed 10 April 2014

The wife and I visited Beaumaris Gaol on 8th April mainly because it was somewhere to go "inside" on a rainy day. You get a real feel of how the prisoners lived, worked and were treated and the despair they must have felt. It is well worth a visit and very reasonable if you buy a ticket for courthouse at the same time.
