“By Dickens, definitely worth a visit!”
Reviewed 11 March 2013

A must for anybody with a passion for social history and/or an appreciation for Charles Dickens, who regularly sat in the press box and wrote of the proceedings been borne out in the walls of the historic courtroom and judges chambers.

“Surprisingly interesting.”
Reviewed 16 December 2012

Certainly doesn't look promising from the outside but actually well worth the admission fee. An extremely informative audio-guide gives insight into the workings of the court and the people who both worked and had their trials heard there. Friendly staff on hand to answer any questions.
Probably most suited to adults and older children. Take advantage of the multi-ticket offering reduced price admission to the Gaol.

“Beaumaris Courthouse and Gaol”
Reviewed 23 November 2012

It is interesting to see an old courthouse and the place is really rather jolly, but not so the Gaol - a gloomy institution behind its high walls, despite the efforts of the local history group to liven it. Stories such as the loss of HMS Thetis nearby in 1939, an angry-making and unnecessary disaster, or the gruesome accounts of executions with and without the gaol - you can still see the hinges for the scaffold to be erected; the treadmill with the dangers of falling into its pit. If this sort of thing is your scene, you may put a higher value on it, but having visited it once, I'm not going back. No doubt that was the impression they tried to send the prisoners out with....

“OK”
Reviewed 17 November 2012

It was educational, but maybe not so much fun with very young children. Worth the few pounds to get in. The staff were charming.

“Bursting with unusual history”
Reviewed 5 November 2012

Well presented and "different", with a good commentary. Time well spent in what externally is an unprepossessing building.
