We had a great few hours here for a fiver but i have been before with my 3 year old and it was hell, there is nothing to do for them it is after all a medieval castle a soft play area would somewhat take away from the experience. Its a castle, enjoy the oldness and the views from the top, some of the walls are closed due to H+S but there is still a good portion open.

We took our 6 and 1 year olds to the castle and both really enjoyed looking around and playing.
Good value admission price.
Wish we'd have taken a picnic as there is a large grassy area inside the castle.

Nicely kept castle with lovely views and well kept grounds, our kids of 6,9.15 enjoyed walking around in the castle with multiple levels and being able to walk around the top of the walls, like someone else has said it's a shame about there being no toilets only the ones you have to pay for down the road but only really a minor thing

this castle was one that was actually never finished. It is still very impressive. Lovely walk around. Nice enclosed gardens. Excellent views from the top. We have 5 year old and a 2 year old, it can be quite challenging for very young children and impossible for buggies to get up and down the levels. Downside is you have to go out of the castle grounds to go to the toilets! (which you also have to pay for). Shop is very small. I wanted to take my children to the toy museum nearby too but that has since closed down. :-(

I'm not a big fan of open heights but this is quite manageable even for me!! Great for castle fans and lovely gift shop too.
