Bank Holiday weekend and the Castle was full of Medieval re-enactment entertainers very much targeting families and kids. Its not that large a castle, but you walk round some of the walls. Without the Entertainers it probably would be a bit boring for kids. There aren't many information boards inside, so if you are interested in its wider history a guide book is probably a must. Beware, no toilets inside the grounds.
