“A gem of a find”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 September 2012

We had just walked out of a dreadful hotel we made the mistake of booking and just set off in search of something more to our liking when we saw a brown sign directing us to this hotel. When we drove down the long drive into the hotel we knew this was going to be good. The hotel is an old country house in the most fantastic style. They had a room available so we checked in with a very helpful and friendly receptionist. We were asked if we wanted a room in the older part of the house or in the more modern extension. We chose a room in the older part and were given a delightful room overlooking the gardens. My wife went off for a walk around the 11 acres of garden while I went for a swim in the very smart spa area. We chose to eat in the tower wine bar and had the most enjoyable meal but they also so have a lovely fine dinning restaurant which I would like to try at some stage. This is a wonderful hotel with very very good staff in all areas. It is not a budget hotel by any means but you should go upmarket at times.

Room Tip: Chose a room in the older part of the house if you want to experience what it would be like to live...

Stayed at the hotel during August for 2 nights on KGB Deals -on arrival they had experienced a power cut and in fairness did put on a free buffet for guests as nothing else was available. However they seemed to blame the power cut for everything. Customer service was sloppy particularly at breakfast. Very restrictive pool times for young children.

Thank you for your review. I apologise that when you stayed the hotel was struck by lightning and caused a fault with the electrics. Being so rural we do reply on this utility to run everything in the hotel. I will look into the customer service issue you raise and if need be place staff on a refresher customer service course. We do however hope to welcome you back in the near future

what a wonderful and amazing place to stay! All you could ask for! Lovely staff and lovely room! i will be coming back! food was lovely and the spa was so relaxing! this is a place you should come if you need a brake! a bit pricey but worth it for the things that are included! we had a bit of trouble finding the place but that's a good thing as it is out of the way and in a quiet place!

I stayed for 1 night as I was attending a wedding nearby. This hotel has great staff, stunning gardens, and the sort of relaxing quiet you only get in old, established buildings. There's a wide breakfast selection, and the scrambled eggs on toast that I chose was delicious. Special mention for Liam the night porter, who couldn't have been more helpful.

Hi
We were a family of three staying at the hotel 27th August and 28th August. We found the hotel but the sat nav we have took us to Capel Coch and not direct to the hotel ... I would recommend that you print off the directions from the hotel website.

We were given room 8 which was located off a galleried landing which was more than adequate for our needs- it was in the old part of the hotel and benefited from original features such as high ceilings and large sash style windows, thick swagged curtains. Pros- Chilled chablis in an ice bucket on arrival! (part of our rate..)Well equiped room including a box containing tea, coffee, hot chocolate and biscuites. There was also bottled water provided. The bed was comfortable. A corner bath with toiletries and nice things like emery boards and shoe shine . There were robes in the room which you can and are expected to use If you are using the spa.The T.V was beneficial (particularly as it was heaving with rain and it wasn't suitable to go out walking). Cons -The view from the window was unremarkable, it was very hot in the night time and despite opening the windows we requested a fan-which helped tremendously! The bedside lamps are low lighting and may be difficult to read a book by.

The hotel was set in very nice well established and maintained grounds. The ground floor had lots of nice quiet comfortable seating areas and some people played board games in the evening. Ther is a pleasant bar area.

We had a meal in the restaurant that was very pleasant. It is very very quiet ... soft background music playing- not the bustle of a busy restaurant. We enjoyed a three course pre fix menu - The sweets we had were stodgy ( sticky date and chocolate mousse) and I wouldn't get them again. Table Wine was £5 a glass . Pop £1.5. The chef was very good and made my son a burger meal which he thoroughly enjoyed.

The spa facilities were nice and clean. The spa steam room and jaccuzzi are not working at present which was a big disappointment for me inparticular. They won't re open until the end of next month ...I believe they will be great when updated and benefit from salt room and a cold spa fountain.Nb to take your robes to the spa ..they do run out but you can take your allocated ones

There is a billiard room near the spa rooms which you can use

There is a cafe area with a pleasant outside seating area which can be enjoyed If the sun shines

There are several newspapers and magazines available near the cafe area that you can enjoy reading in the pool room with comfortable lounging chairs

Breakfast was from 7 - 10. It had a good choice of fresh fruit, yoghurt, cheese, ham cereals and croissants. I requested porridge - it was delicious! We ordered a cooked breakfast which was good quality, hot, tasty and varied

Staff were pleasant and helpful and all in all we had a very pleasant stay in hotel centrally located to access the various island resorts/attractions
For us -
Red Wharf bay - check out the Ship Inn for quality pub food
Rhosniger - Winsufers
Trearddur Bay - Pleasant walk , sandy beach
Benllech bay - good old fashioned family sea side experience

Room Tip: Ask fo room overlooking the established gardens

Many thanks for your review. Apologies that the sauna and steam room were being refurbed but hopefully if you decide to return you will be able to use the new thermal suite which is very popular :)

Stayed here for 2 nights on a KGB deal and we were extreamly pleased with what we got for the price we paid. The Hotel is beautiful and set in amazing grounds. The food was superb in both the main restaurant and the clock tower! The spa was lovely too and probably one of the best i've been too. We both don't have a negative word to say about the place! we will defo be coming back here. Its sad to read that people have put negative reviews about the hotel decor - If you're looking for a modern hotel with modern furniture perhaps this one won't be for you! The decor suites the house and the location, hence why it is a country house.

We recently had the pleasure of visiting Tre-Ysgawen Hotel for a long weekend. Both myself & my wife decided to treat ourselves and ended up staying longer than originally planned. Upon arrival, we received 1st class service. The rooms were wonderful, the hospitality was perfect, beautiful food and a great selection was also available..... and most of all, the spa & restaurant was unbeatable. We planned so much during our stay, but rather spent peaceful time relaxing and enjoying the comforts of the hotel instead - and so glad we did. We were made most welcome and i am looking forward to planning another break there...Well recommended, Thank-you to all the staff & management.
