We were staying in the are on holiday and looking for a nice restaurant to celebrate my birthday. Sosban and The Old Butchers is rated number 1 in Menai Bridge on Tripadvisor so we booked a table for Thursday 27th June. Our dietary requirements were discussed at the time of booking so that the set menu would be suitable for both of us. The food was outstanding from the first mouth to the last. It was amazing the number of ways that simple ingredients, Cauliflower for example can be prepared and delight the taste buds. Every course was an tasting experience and combined with the wonderfully friendly and caring service provided the evening was superb. We have booked another weeks holiday in the area in September and have already reserved a table on two nights of that stay, cannot wait.

Our first trip and we weren't disappointed. A lovely way to enjoy a special wedding anniversary. Freed from the agony of having to choose from a menu we could sit back and have wonderful food served course after course. On arrival we were told what the chef had prepared for us that night - which made it all feel very personal. On booking it is possible to say if there are any foods you would not like so they do not serve any particular dislikes, but it is really nice to have a whole menu designed as one entity rather than picking and mixing.

All the courses, and tastes in between were all stacked with flavour - though I am not sure curried popcorn did anything for the fine sparkling Welsh wine we selected! Particularly good was the cauliflower prepared several ways and the beautiful fresh cod.

We rounded the meal off with coffee and petit fours - a lovely chilled peanut butter and chocolate confection. Altogether a good night out.

This is one of the few restaurants that I've ever awarded 5 stars to and I've eaten in a lot of good restaurants throughout the world.Everything from start to finish was so right, from the warm welcome through the 4 courses interspersed with morsels from the house.Being local I'd wanted to try it for a while but was slightly put off by the appearance of the space from outside, however, once inside it felt right, not fussy but comfortable. The food was extremely good ,again not pretentious but quality ingredients cooked to perfection with layer after layer of flavour and cleverly put together. At £39 a head without drinks or service it's not cheap but is fully justified for an eating experience of this quality. If you appreciate quality food with a twist and good service you won't be disappointed.A word of warning to people who are a tad fussy about food or who enjoy huge portions - it's probably not for you. There is no menu, you get whatever the chef cooks on the night based on seasonal produce although you are warned of this when booking and asked if there's anyhing you don't like or if you have any special dietary requirements.Definitely looking forward to going back when we can afford it.

This restaurant is a favourite and I was lucky enough to have a 4th visit on Saturday. It continues to excel in all aspects, especially the food and friendly service. Loved the set menu as did my companions and it was difficult to choose which course was a favourite as they all were truly magical! Food is exceptional value. How much would this dining experience cost in London? I can't stop talking about this restaurant, it's a gem!

My mother and I bought my father here for his birthday in April as a surprise...it was worth every second and every penny and every mouthful! Absolutely outstanding food, even on a par with The Loft only less formal (which was nice). Excellent quality and prepared local food, and an excellent wine list. Only gripe would be the decor a little too simple - a couple of pictures on the wall would make a difference. Already saving to return!
