Owner description: Plas Cadnant Hidden Gardens have undergone a spectacular transformation and are being restored to their former glory. First laid out in 1804 in the 'picturesque' style of Humphrey Repton, the famous Victorian landscape designer, the gardens had become derelict by 1996. There are 10 acres of gardens, included a 2 acre Walled Garden, fantastic valley gardens packed with unusual and interesting plants, flowering shrubs and trees; river and waterfalls. Home made cakes are served in the traditional Tea Room. Visitor Centre describing the history and restoration of the gardens. In 2015 open 12noon-5pm on Weds/Thurs/Suns in April; Tues/Weds/Thurs/Suns May-Sep; Weds/Suns in October. Pre-booked private group tours by appointment.

What a lovely garden...derelict for many years it is now beginning to return to its former glory. Certainly worth a visit.

“Stunning”

What a beautiful place - thank goodness that there has been the long term vision and patience and dedication to restore this gem of a place. This is a truly amazing project which we count ourselves privileged to have shared and which to which we will certainly return. Lovely tea room - with very large servings of home made cakes too!

“A growing attraction.”

Very much a work-in-progress, and a labour of love - spend a few hours here and learn the history of the estate and be amazed at the work that has been done to restore the gardens to their former glory, and beyond. Anyone with a love of gardens will marvel at this place and leave with a restored belief in what hard work and imagination can do.
Also, visit the tea room - pot of tea with scones or cake - superb.

We are glad you enjoyed your visit to Plas Cadnant. As you say this is a work in progress. We started 16 years ago and it takes time to do things well. You may have noticed that there is a new area currently under restoration - another waterfall and a new viewing point, with a grove of Snakebark Maples. This is a 25 year project and trees are planted for future generations. Hopefully the walk around the gardens offset the scones!

“hidden garden photographers dream”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 April 2013

a hidden garden with holiday cottages around a courtyard. the garden is in a shallow valley with a small river at the bottom complete with waterfall not a sound to be heard but water and bird song
there is a formal garden and a wilder garden with its drifts of bluebells down to the river. winding paths through flowering bushes small flowers poking through low stone walls plenty of seats with views of the valley its a garden for all seasons a small haven of peace. a small formal garden with a pool leads back to a visitor centre. toilets and a tea room.but when we visited it was shut as there was work being done to improve the entrance to tea room and toilets. i should point out that even though the paths in the wild garden are very good parts are steep with steps.but the formal garden is fine.there is ongoing work to extend the garden.

Thank you for your kind comments. The decision was taken 2 years ago to open the gardens to the public. Our aim is to protect the gardens for the future following their restoration, a project that we started 17 years ago. As you saw when you visited work was in progress to complete the landscaping surrounding our visitor centre. The finishing touches will be made to this mid May.

Following a long winter and cold Spring, suddenly everything is bursting into bloom with the Rhododendrons particularly spectacular right now. The bluebells will be at their best over the next week or so, so we do hope you can come and see us again soon.

Our gardens are becoming a 'must-see' destination for artists and photograpers, as well as garden lovers. We are not sure when you visited, but the gardens are open on Wednesday and Sunday afternoons from April to end October; 2-5pm. In July and August we also open on Thursday afternoons.
