Plas Darien Self-Catering Apartments
Reviewed 22 July 2012

Me and a group of friends have been coming here for the past 3 years and always enjoy our stay. We always book Cottage 2 as it sleeps 8 and there's usually that many of us.

I would love to say it is Plas Darien that keeps us coming back but unfortunately, the facilities here are getting worse rather than better. Our first year we were able to play golf and the tennis courts weren't too bad. The past 2 years the golf course has been over grown and unusable. We were expecting it to have been sorted out before we arrived a few weeks ago but unfortunately not!
Also, the tennis courts seem to be being ignored and are getting worse. We saw the groundskeeper a few times, mowing patches of grass but not really touching the main problems i.e the golf course!
We've never booked the indoor/outdoor pool for numerous reasons... the weather is too temperamental, and we don't like to be stuck to plans. We go away to relax and unwind, walk around and don't like the idea of booking hourly slots in case that's not what we want to do that day.
The cottage itself is really comfortable, although the interior stairs are awful, your feet don't fit the width, their VERY slippery and it can be very awkward trying to get downstairs when you've just woken up/are tired.
There are 2 double rooms (1 upstairs with cot, 1 downstairs) and 2 twin rooms with bunkbeds (1 up, 1 down) that are comfortable and nicely furnished. They aren't very big but fit storage space and beds so perfect for use.
The lounge/living area has 3 quite big sofa's that comfortably sit 2 per couch or 3 each at a push.
The kitchen has an electric grill, hob and oven which seems to switch itself off when it gets to the required temperature.. can cause a problem when cooking! There's a big dining table and plenty of cooking utensils etc
There are two bathrooms with toilet, bath and sink (no showers)

Overall, we thoroughly enjoy our stay here. We love the surrounding area, although there's a lack of chip shop/variety of foods available. The Tesco and Asda are very close, with KFC and McDonald's close to them (just in case) and there are two pubs that serve typical pub grub and a newly opened chinese restaurant near the shops.

It's very quiet around the apartments/cottages compared to the likes of Treaddur Bay Hotel but this is what we prefer.

Personally, I would recommend this cottage to travellers as they are value for money and in a nice part of Treaddur Bay. Just don't expect the Hilton when you arrive!

Room Tip: Cottage 2 for large groups :-)

Been to Trearddur Bay many times but the first time we've stayed at Plas Darien.

The accommodation was perfect; well equipped, comfortable and clean.

Plas Darien itself offers good facilities including: free wifi in reception, tennis courts (no need to book), two separate heated indoor pools (bookable by the hour), one outdoor pool (heated summer hols only).

Views from apartments are amazing.

10 minutes walk to the village centre. The pleasant walk takes you past little shingle bays before you reach the sandy beach of Tr. Bay.

The booking process is efficient. Thank you to Yvonne and the staff at Plas Darien.

Will definitely return.

We stayed in cottage 8 which we found to be perfect for the 4 of us, children aged 10 & 8. Although basic we needed nothing else, it was clean, warm, pet friendly and had the added bonus of the use of the large outdoor pool and the 2 indoor private hire pools included in the price. The staff were friendly and helpful and the surrounding area and bay are beautiful. Wouldn't hesitate to go back and will recommend to friends.

Look I want to be fair here but it really is a revelation that places like this still exist.
Who ever is in charge please just update, clean, modernise and step into this century!

Otherwise please CLOSE as the thought of people spending the larger sums of money you ask for the summer time and getting what I stayed in is distressing.

Room Tip: Choose an apartment for view with damp or a cottage for no view with damp.

No response has been received regarding the below email sent to LOVEBANANAS

Dear Sirs
In the writing of this review, you appear to have assumed that all the accommodation available at Plas Darien is owned by a single company. These apartments are privately owned and let out by PD Hols, a Welsh tourist board accredited agency on behalf of the individual owners. You state in your review that you wish to be fair, but by making this assumption unfortunately you have failed to be so. It is doubtful that you will have stayed in all the varied range of accommodation available at Plas Darien, from family budget cottages, through to welsh tourist board graded, three, four and five star apartments. However if you can forward your name and the date of your stay and which cottage and apartment you stayed in as you mention both in your review, your stay can then be verified and obviously protecting customer confidentiality we will pass on your concerns to the appropriate owners. Only by doing this will your comments be regarded as honest and accurate?
Regards Yvonne Abrahams on behalf of Plas Darien Holidays

Stayed in Lady Of The Lake Suite twice in the last 2years, price is not cheap but you can see value for money when you stay with having use of indoor/outdoor pools, mini golf etc.. still to date I have very happy memories of sitting at the window with a cup of tea lookin out across the sea... ahh, would say that decor does need updating, feels 20 years behind the modern day apartments ive stayed in and the whole facility could do with a splash of fresh paint but overall it wouldnt stop me returning, location is perfect for all the best Tbay has to offer, gr8 for the kids and IF you get the weather (imo) its equal to going abroad, would stay again and would recommend

After reading some of the reviews I came armed with a stack of cleaning products. I need not have worried though, our appartment (24,.the Guinevere suite) was spotless. The only bad thing about this holiday was the weather and even that could not detract from the beautiful location. The indoor pools are great, it is a real luxury to have a whole pool just for your sole use, and even though we booked at different times we never had a problem getting one. Yvonne and Jessie on reception were more than helpful, and I am quite hard to please. I tried to upgrade before we arrived and even asked if this would be possible if there were any cancellations, but I need not have worried, the appartment was spacious and had everything you needed. There was even a little aladins cave of a cupboard with everything you could need for a seaside holiday if you have children but unfortunately we did not have our grandchildren on this holiday. The bad weather would have prevented beach outings anyway, but if you are lucky enough to get good weather here, it is a perfect location for a great family holiday at a reasonable price. Want to book for next year asap.

Room Tip: The only minor thing I found was could have done with a small vegtable knife, and potatoe masher
