“Truly Awesome! Quality property in a spectacular setting.”

The first pleasant surprise we encountered in the letting of Pedwar Gwynt was of dealing with the lovely Tanya, the agent, who was a delight to communicate and to speak to throughout. The keys need to be collected from her home/office in the Bay, and we were amazedfrom the start how little of the usual formality there was in taking over this property! No security deposit, no rules do this or do that, and general attitude of trust and respect which was refreshing and enlightening.

The next surprise was when we entered the bungalow- it was huge! Very tardis-like but amazing all the same. It had clearly been a recent refurbishment and the décor was clean, fresh and inviting- we felt well at home so quickly. Then, as we inspected our new home in more detail we were so pleasantly surprised by the sheer quality of its furnishings and equipment. The kitchen for example had a huge range of equipment and pots and pans of all sizes- just like your own kitchen at home.

Next was the all important beds….. wow! They were (for those in the know –which didn’t include me but the wife was well versed..) Alan Ward beds with John Lewis goose feather and down quilts and pillows. Gave a feel of total luxury and clearly no expense spared on this important furnishing. This applied to all of the rooms by the way..even the bunks although we did not use them, seemed substantial and quality made with the same luxurious bedding.

LOTS of storage in all the bedrooms – and indeed hallway and kitchen. More space than you could use on a holiday certainly. The quality of the heavy, lined curtains and matching cushions was evident too- and all done in a tasteful seaside theme. Indeed some of the furniture was a little “quirky!”- but intended to go along with the seaside theme and was very appropriate. Wall pictures similarly seemed to fit this theme.
The en-suite room was magic!- the shower room within was excellent and the deluge from the showerhead quite breathtaking. This room would be so perfect if you had say grandma and grandpa going along with the family on holiday. Not stated in the details, but a massive bonus, was that there is a wall mounted tv in this room that had freeview !

Talking of which, from the property description, we were not sure if there was a tv in the main lounge as it doesn’t show in the photos either- but no need to worry there was a wallmounted screen of around 42” I guess! Carrying on this subject I would also add that there is a smaller tv in the conservatory- and the advantage was that all appeared to have independent access to different freeview tv channels at same time. I am sure if you have a mix of ages then this will prove to be a massive bonus. As indeed is the dual lounge feel with having the conservatory at the opposite end to the lounge. There is also free Wi-Fi which set up easily and had quite a good connection (certainly better than the phone signals –which are poor throughout the whole region)

The crowning glory to this place is when you walk in the lounge. At first I was a little disconcerted by the vague smell of oak smoke but realised this was residual from the previous occupants having made use of the wood burning stove. This I hasten to point out disappeared quickly and never reappeared as we didn’t ourselves light the fire even though there were the logs and kindling provided. Going back to the crowning glory….OMG the view! From the L shaped sofa which followed the contours of the window, you could sit for hours just gazing at the bay maybe 150 yards away- it has huge rocks amid the clear blue water and the surf on them was so pure white it was difficult to imagine it was the UK!
We were “lucky” to be there the weekend when 80mph gale hit the island- what a spectacle! We are people that can appreciate beauty in whatever form and the sight of the raging sea smashing into the rocks was an awesome sight! And once it had calmed a little the next day it was so invigorating to walk the dog on Porth Dinas beach with the wind trying to rip the very clothing from you. Refreshing to say the least- but guaranteed to bring a smile to your face for sure.

We have been to Anglesey 3 times this last year and this was the 2nd visit to Holy island this year- and what a gem this little island is upon the jewel that is Anglesey. I hesitate to shout it too loud lest it attracts crowds but it really is a special place- so uncrowded and uncommercial and…well, just not spoilt at all. Like holidays were 50 years ago it seems.
There is plenty to do in the locality if you look for it –if you can drag yourself away from the lounge window lol. South Stack is a must (but not if your knees go weak with heights as my wifes did) and the Breakwater Country park just above Holyhead is also beautiful to visit. Newborough Forest is an absolute delight- fantastic provision for the tourist is even more evident here than the other places we visited- and the beach and dunes to die for.
Quite how the water quality in this region stays as good as this Im not sure but it seems that crystal clear water is the order of the day wherever you go. Also on the plus side, whilst this area is removed and fairly scarcely populated the proximity to full access to humanity exists by the presence of a retail park just outside of Holyhead (maybe 3 miles away) and this has Tesco, Morrisons, Wilkinsons, Argos etc… So shopping doesn’t have to be expensive or restricted to the wares of the small Spar and village shop which are within reasonable walking distance of the bungalow.
We enjoyed our off season visit to Anglesey enormously- and this bungalow went a long long way towards making the visit so pleasurable. We have rented 3 times here as I say, but I think this one has by far the edge over the others and is certainly one to which we would- and probably will- return. Although I expect once this secret is out we will have to book early to be able to get in. We can honestly recommend this property if you are thinking of going to Anglesey.

“Perfect seaside holiday!”
Reviewed 4 September 2013 for a stay in August 2013

We loved our 2 weeks in Pedwar Gwynt. It was helped by fabulous weather, but we really enjoyed our stay. The house was beautifully kept, and evidently newly refurbished, so everything was very clean, new and functioning. There was plenty of space for our younger child, our teenagers and even granny without us feeling at all crowded. There are brilliant views of the sea. The interior decor is wonderful, lots of seaside prints on curtains and cushions, just how you would want a house by the sea to be! We would definitely choose to rent this property again.
