“A really nice trip with superb staff”
Reviewed 30 July 2014

I had a walk around the station and the museum and found it fascinating. There is plenty to look at and the staff and volunteers are passionate about what they do and what the railway and museum has to offer. I learnt a lot and even learnt a lot about Thomas the Tank Engine that I didn't know!

There is a lift up to the top floor of the museum which is excellent if you are not great on stairs.

The steam train that runs is so well looked after and I am looking forwards to returning to Tywyn to take a trip on the train.

“Steaming away!”
Reviewed 25 July 2014

My husband loves steam railways and this one ticked all the boxes for him and l enjoyed the journey myself ... the journey from start to finish took 3hrs and the views are spectacular! there are stops on the way... and out of the way places .. and the countryside that you travel through is just out of this world ..you see wild life in the air, lovely farms and cottages .. the train itself is a little boys ..big boys dream come true... with the chug chug of the engine the toot of the whistle and the smell of the coal fuel and steam rising from the train chimney ..a step back in time .. the carriages are very clean and lovingly looked after by the hard working staff .. there are tearooms on route stops if you want to get off and explore ... a must if you go to this part of Wales ..we highly recommend this attraction not to be missed!

“Wonderful day out!”
Reviewed 16 July 2014

My trip on the railway last week was one of the highlights of my holiday - a lovely experience all round. The scenery is lovely, you have time to enjoy it all and appreciate it because the pace and speed of the train is so gentle, even the smell of the steam is so nice, and the staff are so courteous and friendly - especially the station master at Abergonolwyn ( Richard?), who was cheerfulness and helpfulness itself.
My dog and I enjoyed the stop-off at Dolgoch Falls and the walk around there, followed by nice refreshments outside at the tea rooms, with spectacular views from where we sat. And the length of time there for that break was perfect, before getting back on the next train for Abergonolwyn - another great stop, again perfect timing, just right to walk the 10 minutes from the station down the hill into the village for a lovely pub lunch at the Railway Inn in the village. Again, wonderful views walking down there. Then, a couple of hours later, back on the next train again up to Nant Gwernol, just for a 10 minute stop to turn the locomotive round, ready to head back down again to Tywyn.
A memorable day out - thank you!

It sounds like you did your homework and found the perfect way to enjoy our railway. If we were one of the highlights of your holiday then we have done our job.

I have spoken to Richard Evans who was the platform inspector that you spoke to, he remembered you and wishes me to pass on his thanks for remembering him .

Many thanks for the review

“The Best Holiday!”
Reviewed 12 July 2014

Recently spent a week in Tywyn and rode on the railway every day bar one. The ride is well thought out with a break of around half an hour at Abergynolwyn, which is ample time to get something to eat and/or a drink. The staff couldn't have been more friendly, allowing my son (aged 7) onto the footplate at Wharf and talking him through the finer points of steam, and letting him wave the flag to start the train! The shop has a great selection for the keen enthusiast or casual visitor and I couldn't recommend the whole experience highly enough. We can't wait to go back again.

“Great Day Out”
Reviewed 7 July 2014 via mobile

Took my 2 year old daughter for a day out on the train and had a fantastic time
The views are stunning and the train journey is just long enough with plenty to see out of the window
We had a snack at the train station in Tywyn which was very nice and reasonably priced
There is also a small museum there to keep you entertained as you wait the return train to Abergynolwyn
Before leaving we visited the play area and had a lot of fun on the big slide
All in all a great day out with great views and friendly staff
