Owner description: The Talyllyn Railway is a historic narrow gauge steam railway, being the Worlds First preserved Railway!. Our track runs for 7.25miles from Tywyn to Abergynolwyn and Nant Gwernol through unspoilt Snowdonia. Our station at Tywyn is also home to the Narrow Gauge Railway Museum, Railway Shop and King's Licensed Cafe & Bistro. The line passes the delightful Dolgoch Falls and there are excellent forest walks at Nant Gwernol. We offer a great day out for all the family, allow 4 hours for a round trip, visit to the museum and something to eat!. Groups receive a discount when booked in advance.
Useful Information: Food available for purchase, Baby buggy parking, Activities for young children, Stairs / lift, Wheelchair access, Bathroom facilities, Activities for older children

Lovely little railway, especially appealing to our small children. Good facilities, and lovely, well signposted walks between stations. Cake at station cafe was yummy too. Only downside was that the museum at the start was closed by the time we got back down the line - only open till 4.30, so make sure you have time to visit before.

Thank Claire B

Sounds like you and your children had a great day out. I fully understand your disappointment with the museum opening times. Unfortunately the Museum whilst occupying the same site is a different organisation to the railway and the opening times are beyond our control. We are in dialogue with the museum and we do hope to get this resolved for next year.

The main station at Tywyn is very pretty and nostalgic. The trains and carriages are spotless
The trip took a little over 2 hours and could take all day if you get on and off (as often as you like ). Kids trave for £2.20. Bargain! Plus you get a voucher for a fiver to spend in the cafe. Enthusiastic staff make the visit a treat. Thank you.

My highlight of the trip was right at the beginning when I visited the free
museum and was met by the guide, a lady called Barbara.
The guide explained just about everything that I wanted to know about the railway.
The other reason for enjoying this visit so much was the thought on the journey as to just how much work must have gone into the original and also how much we owe to the dedicated few who ensure the majority enjoy this tremendous achievement that both have created.

I am so glad you were impressed with the effort that goes into running and maintaining the railway. You are indeed correct it takes many many hours of hard work and unfortunately very large amounts of money. to this end it is vital that we listen to our very valued customers and you review is very important to us.

Please visit again soon.

One of my husband's retirement gifts was a steam train driving experience on the Talyllyn Railway. Absolutely everyone we encountered from the cleaning crew to the firemen, guards, cafe staff and other drivers were so friendly and enthusiastic yet professional in their approach. These people come from all walks of life to travel to Tywyn and stay for days, weeks or even months to give of their free time. All enjoy whatever role they do in keeping the steam engines going and an invaluable service to the public who have no idea what it takes to keep this dream alive. Well done to you all and yes my husband had a memorable day - thanks again Bill for your excellent training.

The driver experience on the Talyllyn is constantly delivering and people seem to like the way we can tailor the day to the customers needs. I am so glad you enjoyed your day and I do remember seeing you at the end as I was driving one of the service trains that day. I wont tell Bill how good he was we need to keep his feet on the ground :-)

Thanks for remembering us.
