Just got bk from visiting the Skirrid Inn for the first time with my wife & father in law. It was awkward to get a wheelchair in but the owner apologised & said it was impossible to create Disabled access due too the age of the Inn. We orderd drinks & meals x3 & the service was very good & efficient. The meals were very good & plentiful, & worth the money. All in all a lovely visit & will be back 8/10.

Stopped here for a drink after walking the Skirrid. Had seen the inn on TV and had heard of it's reputation so we thought we really should pop in.
Very surprised by the lack of atmosphere. Really has a lot of potential here but sadly does not seem to be making the most of it. The beer choice was extremely poor and rather expensive, but then that is down to the abysmal ownership of Punch Taverns. We wanted food at half past two on a Saturday but were stunned to find out service stops in the afternoon! On a Saturday in prime walking country! We saw several people who wanted food but were told no. It beggars belief really. Toilets (certainly the men's) were dirty and smelly with completely unconnected images of Marylin Monroe on the walls.
Thought we would see more made of the history, but that amounts to a couple of bits of fabric tacked to the walls and a rope hanging in the stairwell.
Certainly didn't feel spooky or atmospheric in the slightest.
A real let-down for what is supposed to be the oldest pub in Wales - God knows how this survives when considerably better establishments are shutting every week in this country.

Me and my wife took our Niece from Vancouver to the oldest pub in Wales for a lunchtime snack. My niece who had not actually been there had written about it in a blog and when I mentioned this to Angie the lovely and helpful barmaid she insisted we toured the inn after lunch.

The meal was very well cooked and quite adequate portions. I maybe prejudiced but I think that living in Wales there is nothing better than eating beautifully cooked welsh lamb drinking a pint of welsh draught beer sitting among some welsh mountains.

The rope hanging from the stairwell is a stark reminder of the dark days of the inn when it was used as a courthouse and justice in all its forms was served.

Thank you Skirrid it was a lovely experience.

I only passed through the Skirrid Inn in passing . I had a cup of tea with my partner before climbing Skirrid. The tea and the welcome were fine. The pub looks to be truly ancient but has awful corny decor. The gents toilets were filthy, although the young staff were sat around chatting with locals. I overheard the landlord talking on the telephone. He was talking to someone from a rotary club - somewhere in the USA I think - trying to book rooms. He was insisting on having correspondence by letter. He wanted the guys e-mail address on the letter. He was trying to make his future customer sound like an idiot to his audience of locals. When he put the phone down they all had a good laugh

a great visit to a lovely pub, great food and beer, lovely big open fire, sadly didnt see or hear any ghosts or any paranormal activity but enjoyed our stay. one point, please invest in the bathrooms, they need showers fitting, not a 1970s rubber hose from a tap, my only gripe! gladly go again
