Like other reviewers we took advantage of the Travelzoo 7 course taster menu offer. We were not disappointed.
A warm welcome awaited us on check in and a glass of bubbly on the terrace.
Our room was comfortable, but it was the taster menu that impressed! Seeing all the cutlery put before us was a little overwhelming as were the size of some of the portions! However, the food was absolutely delicious as was breakfast next day.
The staff on duty when we stayed could not have been more obliging. We thoroughly enjoyed our one night stay and will definitely return.

We booked a two night stay through Travelzoo at the Falcondale Hotel. This was to celebrate our wedding anniversary and the seven course taster meal and better double room sounded fantastic. The room was certainly impressive with fantastic views. The staff were very welcoming and it was lovely to be able to converse with them in Welsh. Breakfast on both days was very good and most of the seven course dinner was very tasty. Unfortunately there was no chicken so we had rabbit which we did not enjoy. I also had specifically mentioned that it was our wedding anniversary and the hotel had advertised the fact that we would have a candle with our sweet. No candle and it was too late to mention the fact as the surprise element had gone.We also did not receive our welcome dringk of Prosecco. Da iawn ond piti am rai pethau.

Room Tip: One with a view but do not expect mobile phone coverage.

Thank you very much for writing a review, it is greatly appreciated.

The a la carte menu offers a choice of around 5 dishes for each course. The tasting menu is a set menu, and gives you the opportunity of trying dishes you may not ordinarily try.

If you wish to have a candle within your dessert please inform the waiting staff on the evening. We do not automatically do this, as I'm sure some of our guests would not appreciate this gesture.

We were booked for two nights bed, breakfast and 7 course taster menu.
The hotel is lovely and the staff are friendly and efficient. We were booked with TravelZoo a present from our children.
Our room, number 19, was clean and spacious it was described as a better double but to be honest we were a little disappointed that we didn't have a balcony - as some of these rooms apparently do.
The 7 course taster menu was delicious with our favourite courses being the scallops and the panacotta with strawberry sorbet.
It was on the strength of this meal that we decided to dine again in the hotel the following night, but this time we were disappointed with our mains. There was no problem with the starters or desserts.
My lamb dish with cous cous was ridiculously small with 4 pieces of lamb no longer than 2'' in length 1" wide and 1 cm thick, only a little more than we had for the taster menu. Also this dish was tasteless and dry being nowhere near as good as when presented with fondant potato and cabbage the previous evening. My husband had the hake, which was a good size but he said the pac choi and potatoes were under cooked.
Breakfasts were excellent on both mornings. We had the full Welsh on one morning and the haddock with poached egg on the second morning.
Would we go back - yes but only for the taster menu - not for the three course menu - at £40 each for three courses it all has to be good.

Room Tip: Be very particular when booking your room - ask exactly what facilities it has got.

Thank you very much for taking time out in writing a review, the whole team here at The Falcondale appreciates your effort. Your comments regarding dinner have been passed to the kitchen team who will examine this issue for the future.

The Falcondale was built and designed as a private house in 1859, which means that all of our elegant and luxurious rooms do vary in size, shape and outlook. This makes classification (in traditional hotel terms) a little more difficult. However, they have been grouped as best, better, standard and small. The room you booked on this occasion was a "better" rooms, we have two "best" rooms which have balconies.

We look forward to being able to welcome you back, and could suggest that you may want to upgrade to a best room with a Juliet balcony.

This is a quiet country manor which just lacks some warmth. Our room was spacious but lacked enough ambient light with light fittings which didn't meet the needs of the room, nor the guests. The bathroom too was dingy, with an ill fitting door, really not up to the standards expected. The dining experience however was good, the tasting menu offering some creative dishes which were well cooked and presented. Staff were generally helpful and knowledgeable. It's a great location too.

Thank you David W for taking time out in writing a review.

We have found lighting to be very subjective and are always trying to balance ambience and practicality. It may be useful to know which room it is you were staying in so that we can address any maintenance and lighting issues.

We are happy to read that you enjoyed your dining experience with us. Maybe if you were to stay again we should try a different room.

We needed to be in this area of Wales and would have found it difficult to find a more appropriate accommodation. The standard of food was high and menu interesting. Well done to the staff who were very professional without being intrusive

Booked this break through Secret Escapes - and it turned out to be a fantastic buy! Hotel is a lovely classic - with beautiful grounds and very friendly staff. Our room was beautiful, with lovely views. Had the taster menu on our first night, which was just fantastic, fine dining at it's best....and very generous portions! Although we had intended to eat out on our second night, we could not have found better, so ate in the hotel - we were not disappointed. The attention to detail is also top class, and the superb breakfast reflects this. We would highly recommend a visit to this hotel for a peaceful getaway; it is also superbly placed to explore beautiful Ceredigion.

Room Tip: We had room 18 which is classed as a "better room", and was spacious and delightful.

First time at this hotel . Stayed for a weekend, went for a bit of a rest and good food, was not disappointed at all, we had an evening meal the first night and enjoyed much we had our evening meal there on the Saturday also, even though there being many places to eat in the near town.
Room we had was very clean and nicely decorated and furnished, with a grand view down the valley, had a very nice sun rise in the morning peaking over the tree tops ( I am an early riser). Food we had was superb on both nights enjoyed with a couple of bottles of wine, the list of which is very nice, we had a warm welcome and good friendly service, and we will be returning in the future.
