We visited The Castle Green because it is (was?) rated #1 in Lampeter. It's split in to two halves, one being a really traditional bar, the other the restaurant. The restaurant is nicely decorated, with quite modern looking furniture. We ordered mussels to start, yet I started feeling a bit weary when I heard the ding of a microwave from the kitchen. The sauce the mussels were in was lovely, and there were plenty of them, with no empty shells whatsoever. My girlfriend ordered a surf and turf and I ordered the Monte Carlo steak, both rare. This is where the restaurant went downhill fast. My girlfriends start was probably medium at best, but her prawns were absolutely awful - still in their shells and impossible to shell because of how firm and rubbery they were, they would have bounced if dropped on the floor. My steak was cooked well done! I could maybe understand if the lines between rare and medium rare or medium became blurred, but to overcook it to this extent was dreadful. We complained about the prawns and the chef said it might be because of the sauce they were cooked in?!? They gave us £3 off the bill. The owners and staff in The Castle Green were some of the nicest I've met, but I won't be going back again. Also, you will need cash if you do go, they don't take card payments. Very disappointing
