Discovered this via Trip Advisor. Was there during a filming for Good Morning America Everyone was friendly and the Friday night $10.00 steak dinner was great.

“Unique dining experience in a Historic location”
Reviewed 22 January 2013

We ate here on a Friday evening and enjoyed the "Steak Night" with live Bluegrass Banjo picking. Shelby Forest General Store is definitely off the beaten path; located within 20 minutes of Hwy 51 between Millington and Memphis, Tennessee; a large billboard is located on Hwy 51. The first thing I noticed was the large rooster sleeping on the bench on the front porch; you go inside and are greeted by the owners like you are an old friend and the banjo pickers are standing to your left plucking away. If it is Friday, you are there for the steak supper and you will not be disappointed. Although the store has a varied menu; opening at 6 am for breakfast and serving a wide selection of sandwiches and other items. on Friday evening the only offering is the steak. Our steaks were cooked perfectly, tasty and tender, served with french fries and slaw, it is a wonderful meal. The walls are decorated with taxidermied turkeys, fish and other small animals. n interesting experience for all ages.

“Very friendly service.”
Reviewed 19 October 2012

I'd say an average burger and fries, but the staff was simply adorable. The burger and fries were cooked fresh and the staff was very intertested in ensuring I was pleased with my order.

“A roaster, live bluegrass, and a mean steak omelette”
Reviewed 10 August 2012

This place is definitely off the beaten path for most tourists, and even for most Memphians. It's a 20-30 minute drive from downtown, but if you want to know what semi-rural Tennessee looks, sounds, and tastes like without having to get too far from the city, this is the place to go. From the roaster who greets you at the front door to the creaking floor boards to the lunch counter, this place has got character. There's a good assortment of snacks, drinks, and necessities on the shelves for a day in the park or if you run out of something while camping. The open griddle serves up breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and I've never been disappointed with my choices. The cheese steak omelet is the best I've ever had! If you stop by there for any reason, be sure to grab a homemade brownie from the front counter. They are to die for, and I always grab one for my backpack before my hikes. The bluegrass is fun to watch while your food cooks, and the family that owns and operates it are friendly and welcoming to everyone who walks in. Basically, it's a chance to step away from the city for a minute, slow down, and eat some really good food, but you can still get back to Beale St. in 30 minutes when you're ready to speed things back up.

“Where else can you get a tasty well-marinated steak dinner for $9 in the forest & have a full-on bluegrass band play?”
Reviewed 22 April 2012

We only tried the steak and shrimp; both were great! Family friendly & store prices reasonable. Bike up from the campground! I did wish the band would have played outside.
