“Magical experience”
Reviewed 13 August 2014

We have stayed in many B&Bs in the UK and Australia, and Old Cartett House surpasses all previous experiences. On arrival, Sue welcomed us with a pot of tea and freshly-cooked Welsh cakes, which we enjoyed with her in the garden. She was warm and friendly, and had lots of great advice about places to see during our visit. We were in the smaller of the two rooms, and it was light, bright and clean with an exceptionally comfortable bed and bedding. On reflection, we think the larger room would have suited us a little better, with its sofa and bigger bathroom - however, the smaller room was more than adequate! We stayed two nights, and particularly enjoyed the scrumptious breakfast. We were lucky to spot a large badger in the garden on our first night! We had mentioned to Sue that our 1 year-old daughter loves badgers, and on arriving home from dinner our first night, Sue presented Annabelle with a gorgeous badger puppet. What a special gift - we have named him Trefin! Martyn and Sue are warm, friendly and interesting. They have the most beautiful home, and are gracious hosts. We hope that we will have many opportunities to return to this special sanctuary.

We had a short walking break based around Trefin and found this delightful B&B via an internet search. From our initial welcome with tea and welsh cakes in the walled garden to the excellent breakfasts, we were looked after very well by Sue and Martyn. The room was clean, fresh and nicely furnished and the house itself a pretty and sensitively maintained period cottage. Gus the dog was even up for a game of football (which at his age - and mine - was brave). The hosts were also very well informed about the local area and happy to share knowledge and make suggestions. All in all, I heartily recommend this as an excellent place to stay.

The Old Cartlett House is lovely and an extremely special place to stay. The room/bed was very comfortable, linens clean and good wifi service. Martin was a gracious host and Gus (the dog) was always up for a pat on the head. Plus, the access to the coastal hiking was easy. We stayed at a number of Inns along the Coastal Path and the Old Cartlett House was our favorite!!

Room Tip: We stayed in the smaller of the two rooms and it was fine.

One of the most picturesque homes we've ever stayed in. Historic, beautifully decorated, with a lovely atmosphere and a gorgeous garden. Warm, friendly hosts, who looked after us really well. Superb bedroom, with super-comfy bed. Fantastic location for coastal walks. Excellent breakfasts with local produce (including tempting duck eggs). This is a magical place, and we had a truly memorable stay.

We have just returned from a week staying at Old Cartlett House. Martyn & Sue looked after us really well. They are both very well informed about the area and do everything they can to help. The house is just beautiful with a lovely garden to sit in when you return from a day out. A cup of tea is always provided too! My gluten free diet was catered for as well.
Our bedroom and en-suite was just as we hoped. We'll be going back!

The welcoming hosts Martyn and Sue have lovingly restored this 16th century farmhouse to a superb standard of decor throughout. With tasteful fixtures and fittings, the most delicious breakfasts (we recommend the duck eggs) and a secluded garden which is a wildlife haven all on its own, nocturnal visits from badgers and a fox thrown in for free, we defy anyone to find fault with this accommodation. Oh yes, there is one! Gus, the loveable Cocker Spaniel, snores!
Ideally situated between St David's and Fishguard, this B&B is ideally situated for walkers, ornithologists, explorers and those who just love this part of the stunning Pembrokeshire Coast line. We will definitely be back as many times as they will have us.

I can't speak highly enough of this excellent, beautiful B&B. It really captures everything that is great about Pembrokeshire - The comfort, the country feel and the extremely warm welcome from the owners were all the perfect accompaniment to my holiday. Where to begin... The house itself is beautiful, and the owner Martyn is a true craftsman, having done a masterful job restoring it into a stylish, incredibly high quality home. The garden is gently and smartly landscaped with a natural, sheltered feel. The main reception and breakfast room has a feeling of such warmth and class to it, and the bedrooms are characterful and very high quality. The en suite bathrooms are generous and clean, and the bedding is lovely! The breakfast was generous, prepared with love and filled with local ingredients that you just can't find at home. The house pets are friendly, docile and incredibly charming. The area itself is stunning, with untouched wildlife and natural beauty in abundance. This is an absolutely premium B&B in a beautiful part of the world, and you won't find better anywhere near.
