“Better than a country hotel”

Who would have thought that tucked away off a little used mountain road between Llanidloes and Machynlleth in mid Wales one would find such a treasure.
Having been to holiday accommodation recommended by friends before and been disappointed I was slightly hesitant about what I might find, but from the moment of my arrival with tea and proper home made cakes to my parting three days later I could not have had a better time.
If you like wild Wales, and my stay in early November was certainly wet and windy, there can be nothing better than having an exceptionally comfortable home from home, with log burning stove, to arrive back to after energetic walks in the cold and rain.
I certainly will be returning to Bron-Y-Llys to experience a different season but in the expectation that the hospitality will be be of the same exceptional standard.
I think I have only one complaint in that I may have put on weight despite the walking.

We had a one night stay with Maya and John and it was wonderful. From the time we arrived and were greated like family through to when we left with loads of ideas of things to do in the local area, everything was perfect. The accommodation was of an extremely high standard, and much better than many hotels we have stayed in. We had our 5 year old son with us also and he couldn't have been happier! Both the evening meal and the breakfast the following morning were excellent, as were the freshly made flapjacks we had when we arrived! We highly recommend a stay and are very much looking forward to our return trip next year!

We had such a wonderful time staying at John and Maya's. Our room was extremely comfortable and the B&B is full of thoughtful touches which make it an outstanding place for a relaxing stay. John and Maya suggested some picturesque walks which were really enjoyable and we felt very at home resting in their cozy sitting room. Maya went to a lot of trouble cooking delicious teatime treats as well as heavenly dinners, all of which she adapted to be gluten free for my husband who has just been diagnosed as coeliac. We will definitely return next year!

We stayed with Maya and John to celebrate a 60th birthday and they really helped make it a special weekend for us. Although it was just a short 2 night stay, it really felt as if we had had a longer break; mind you I think if we had stayed longer we might not have fitted back in the car as we took full advantage of the excellent and plentiful food! From the warm welcome when we arrived, to the wonderful food and little extras, everything was geared to ensuring we had a lovely time. They were very happy to lend us books and maps and to advise about walks and generally chat about anything and everything! It really felt like going to stay with friends rather than at a B&B. One of the highlights was getting to look at the Milky Way which was right over the house, and with no light pollution we got a fantastic view. This is a really lovely B&B which I would highly recommend to get away from it all. The house and location are gorgeous (and I would echo all the comments from other reviewers) but I think what sets it apart is the welcome and care and attention that Maya and John give their guests. We look forward to a return trip soon!

We had a very short overnight stay in this lovely B&B as I was booked on a trial riding motorbike course down the road in Staylittle. We didn't leave home until 5.00pm we had to negotiate the latter stages of the route in pretty much pitch darkness (no light pollution here!). The instructions that Maya had sent through were brilliant, and we found them no problem. John opened the gate for us and waved us into the ample parking area.
What a lovely welcome we had, Maya and John were brilliant, helping us with our bags into the annexe, which is on the side of the main house. Our room was large and very modern, with a lovely ensuite and nice soft fluffy towels. Maya was concerned that we may be cold, and they provided an additional heater (which we didn't need), as the duvet was just right. It's so quiet there you can't fail to have a good night's sleep, and the bed was extremely comfortable.
The home made cookies supplied with the tea and coffee facilities in the room were lovely, and I can recommend Maya's scrambled eggs! I just wish we had spent longer there, and I would have made good use of the lounge area with tv and fantastic wood burner. A huge thanks to John and Maya, I expect we will be back at some point, to use you as a base for some walking and exploring, (or even another trials riding day - which was fab).

Our much anticipated luxury cruise down the Nile cancelled, we were wondering which other exotic part of the world we could visit for the last week in September, when a friend recommended Bron y Llys! We booked with frankly limited expectations (well, wet Wales is hardly a substitute for sunny Egypt). How wrong can you be?!
From the moment of booking, to a very fond, reluctant farewell we felt cared for, cossetted, ministered to and pampered. Maya and John have a gift of hospitality.
Maya's cooking is sublime -we had a delicious meal in the evening (we stayed for 7 nights); breakfast was a range of cereals/fruit/yogs/cooked full English/pancakes/eggs of any description/gorgeous homemade bread and jams. There was also an afternoon cup of tea and cake not to mention the homemade cookies and Welsh cakes on the tea/coffee tray in the room. Every detail of comfort has been thought about in the room - cosy slippers and dressing gowns; Molton Brown toiletries; candles; best shower ever; comfiest bed imaginable....With the total peace of the surroundings we slept well!
Maya and John have a wonderful collection of books which they are happy for you to browse through. The garden is in the early stages of development but will be lovely when finished -it already attracts a wide variety of birds. The whole setting is wonderful and in a stunningly beautiful part of Wales -great walking and birding territory.
My only hesitation in recommending Bron y Llys is that it will become too popular and we won't be able to book in again! (forget wet Wales -we had gorgeous weather - Egypt, eat your heart out!)

We weren't expecting much. Walking the Glyndwr Way we knew Dylife to be an old mining community which had seen more prosperous days, and where accommodation is pretty thin on the ground. We'd had a wet and exhausting day, and anywhere dry would have been welcome.

This wasn't just dry, it was the warmest welcome you could wish for with boots and wet clothing whisked away, and tea and cakes (yes, two varieties) to make you feel at home. The room we had (Hafren I think) is slightly separate with it's own separate entrance and is beautifully furnished with an excellent bathroom. The choice of drinks on the courtesy tray was impressive too, adding a cafetiere and ground coffee to the more usual selection.

Because we were on foot, Maya also cooked for us, in what felt like a private dinner party with the other delightful guests. The meal was as good as everything else about Bron y Llys. We even found ourselves given a jar of welsh-cakes to take to the room in case we felt hungry overnight!

We have to go back. Now we just need to find a good reason for staying a bit longer next time.
