The Old Kiln is a lovely, cosy cottage in a somewhat remote but beautiful part of Wales. The cottage has all you need for a quiet relaxing break and the owners are friendly and always accommodating - Owner Sue was kind enough to send last minute driving guidance when heavy snowfalls closed some local roads and also met us on site to ensure a trouble free hand over. Make sure you try Sue's home made apple juice and jams which are available to purchase. Communications are a problem, as we were unable to use our EE mobiles anywhere in or around the cottage and Wi-Fi was not available at the time of our visit. The owners have, however, advised that Wi-Fi will be available as from May. We will definitely be booking to stay at the Old Kiln again.
The Old Kiln had everything we needed, the underfloor heating was great. We used the extra electric radiators as well, but glad they were there - it was December after all!
We didn't plan to go out for dinner so made good use of the fully equipped kitchen.
With BT hotspot in the area it was possible to connect to Wifi, however, it can be temperamental.
The bathroom has an amazing shower!
The bed was comfy if you're used to a firmer mattress, could possibly do with some new pillows.
There are plenty of places to explore and go walking, and it was very useful to have maps of the area provided. Overall I would recommend, this was a brilliant place to stay!
We were met by Sue who gave us a warm welcome and showed us all round the property. She gave us some pointers about finding the best views etc - and wow! the views nearby are to die for - despite the awful weather.
This is an ideal cottage for a couple who want to get away from it all, with all the facilities you need provided by the owners - there is even a stream running past the decking, though it was more of a torrent after all the rain we had.But the cottage is warm and cosy, so the weather made no difference to us.
There is plenty to see and do if you are prepared to drive through the stunning Welsh hillsides - a must see is Abbey Cwm Hir - the most interesting house we have ever come across (you need to book).
Thank you Malcolm and Sue - we had a wonderful week in the gorgeous Old Kiln.
A very peaceful location. The Old Kiln was furnished to a very high standard. There was lots to do in the area and some fantastic scenery. The owners were lovely!
We booked this last minute and have never used trip adviser before. We were desperate for a little break. I put in our dates and The Old Kiln popped up.
We arrived to a warm welcome from Sue and she gave us a very detailed intro and what to do also about local information and walks etc.
It was just what we wanted it had everything you could think of. There was nothing I needed that She didn't think of. This place truly is a little gem. Fantastic base for walks and exploring. We didn't eat out as we just wanted to enjoy this beautiful place with it's lovely views and the singing of the birds.
Under floor heating was lovely and the shower is fab but to be honest everything was fab. Loads of info on walks and what to do. We will definitely be using this beautiful place again. So so glad i found it.
This was an ideal place to stay as it has so many walks nearby and it is very rural. The Old Kiln is comfortable, well presented with lovely views out the large patio doors. It is a good base to travel out from: we visited Hafron Forest to walk to the source of the River Severn, Cader Idris and a couple of the local towns.
Owners Malcolm and Sue were very welcoming and helpful. Enjoyed everything.
